Now, we have come to the crossroads, O Travelers. We are at the brow of the hill. A new white road stretches out before us, much wider, much longer, losing itself in the misty blue far ahead. Each must follow that trail alone, walking or riding, gaily or sadly, as the Master of the Highway decrees. So, travelers, adieu! Here's a smile and a song and a wish for success. Tuck it away in the depths of your trunk. Pay the toll of your school days at the gate and set out on the riband road. Think of us often and of the old trail and often we'll think of you and one day we'll meet at the end of the road, in a haven of glorf ious rest. Our elbows make their way straight out Through sleeves once strong and new, Our teachers say, just patch them, girls, With a piece of navy blue. But all our efforts seem quite vain, Another hole is spied Appearing in the self same spot We wished so much to hide. Our cuffs and collars trimmed in braid Once silky and so white Are all now faded and all frayed Almost unlovely sight! And then, they're oh! so shiny From oft repeated pressing We really don't know what we'll do Our plight is most distressing. Sophomores l63l

Where Winter Reigns 3 F13 , HICH one of her children does not love dear old Cedar x - Y' Grove in her snowfolad glory? We all revel with her in 514 T W the joyous springtime when she is radiantly garlanded pl. C93 ' Tv old girls, love to think of her when her summer gaiety 'U ia' changes to richer autumnal shades. But when old King Winter reigns supreme then do we truly love our Alma Mater. Then do the old King's sprites choose Cedar Grove grounds as their frolicing - 5' ' U3 -P H WY ,-47-.4 D 'il F l ln . p qt V .b f ,QW QQ, with flowers of many hues. All of us, especially the We 1' bv fee wa is A rendezvous. On a midfwinter's morn if you choose the broad avenue where giant trees rear their heads in hoary grandeur, you will pass our two holly trees, standing side by side, their bright red berries peeping through rare green leaves. As you tread your weary way up the broad avenue you will notice our Blessed Mother's wayside shrine glistening with myriads of nature's snowdrops. Our farffamed tulip tree with its wide flung branches stands like an old sentinel guardin the approach of the Grove. Equally beautiful is the picture if you cioose the winding side path. Here the white silence is broken by the whistlin of the wind through the tall pines and the muffled sound of the old bell from its lofty tower. The severe outlines of the historic structures are relieved by the great drifts piled hi h in pidturesque splendor. Viewed from afar the scene reminds one og an old etching of Gadshill House. Katherine O'Brien, '28 At the Foothills 7, 3 Q'-55 If HERE are the Ereshies? Why, we are here- At the wg egg' foothills, climbing. Are we discouraged? No, for 5' Lg with the ropes of the past we must ring the bells of the Y aol ew future. By making use of everything which the past Bi 3059 years have taught us, can we not reach our goal success? gli Another way to spell success is application . By pracfticing what this word implies are we not able to reach the peak of the mountain up which we are trudging? We are sure we can, for believing that we cannot make headway without headwork, the Freshf men are not seeking the easiest means, but those, by which we can over- come all difliculties on our upward climb. With these good intentions do you think we can fail? We do not, and we are sure that in later life we can look back on our Freshman year as one crowned with success. Mildred Winters, '29 l70l
