Why I Should Choose a Catholic College Liege!! 67 SHOULD choose a Catholic college because I am a Cath- Slllgil olic. As such, the sutpport of the institutions of my F Church is one of my rst duties. For twelve years I have attended parochial and convent schools. To choose a Catholic college is to continue my earlier education, to ,I usa: ygj., Lg f ' ' entire y different atmosphere with ideas and standards radically different QV choose a non Catholic one would be to enter into an from those I have known, to spend at least a year acclimating myself to new surroundings. In a Catholic college my thoughts and adtions would be understood, and would conform, with a few changes, perhaps, to the thoughts and adtions of those around me. To adjust myself to the standards of a nonfCatholic college either I must greatly change or the college greatly change, and in all the history of the world the mountain has never come to Mohammed. The moral tone of the Catholic college is inhnitely higher. It affords greater facilities for the frequent reception of the sacraments of Penance and Holy Communion. Its students cannot escape the influence of the religious atmosphere of the place. The Catholic colle e is often much smaller than our nonfCatholic institutions. This is a drawback in only one regard, it can never offer as many courses as the greater state colleges can. The smaller Catholic college, however, has this advantage- greater attention can be paid, and is paid, to individual differences. In the subjects taught Catholic colleges in this country are officially recognized and listed on a par with any others. Perhaps the greatest reason for the choice of a Catholic college is the one expounded y Newman in his argument for including theology in the curriculum of a university. Behind the world, mental, physical, spiritual, is the power of God. We attend colle e to advance our knowlf edge. We realize that we have much to learn og Latin, mathematics, the sciences, man, etc. If we choose a Godless collegiate education we imply that either we think we know all there is to know about God, or that we care to know nothing more about Him. This is a blind and mis' taken point of view. To build up a knowledge of a subjedt without any consideration or regard for the Power that is behind it, is to build a house of cards which the first strong breath of primal reasoning will destroy. Lastly we face that old, old uestion, What doth it profit a man if he gain the whole world and sufir the loss of his own soul? We can' not evade the fast that higher education pursued at nonfCatholic colleges has been the cause of many lapses of faith. Would it not be far better, then, to go through life without a sofcalled liberal education than to run risk of impairing or losing the priceless heritage of our faith?
