At last the day arrived. which was the dawning of a new life. Time shall not dim that scene which I witnessed this September day of 1920. Vividly I can see you. on your first day in High School. olaviously conscious of the new dignity. but withal a little frightened and-bewildered. Waiting to he welcomed hy you as classmates were eight others. timid in their new surroundings. A larief exchange of introductions revealed the names of your future companions. St. Lawrence School had sent its honor pupil. Catherine Fallon. and from St. Williamis had come Ada Brinclc and Grace Wohlnen. Distance mattered not to Lillie Mae Grause. who came from St. Boniface. Cumminsville. Lucille O'Neil was from the Cathedral. St. Michael's School sent two pupils. Loretta Reber and Alma Messer- schmidt. and from the Holy Family School had come Mary O'Brien. A The timidity of the new-comers vanished hefore the cordiality of the teachers and the 'sold girls . and all were ready to settle down to mastering the hardships common to the first year of High School. But the taslc was not so strenuous after all. and before long you found yourselves victors in the first hattle of High School life. Encouraged and strengthened hy this victory. you were now ready to meet whatever trials and difficulties the second year might present. During the second semester your numher was increased when Emma Wesley. sweet and wistful. appeared one morning seelt- ing admittance to the class. As undergraduates. you welcomed another smiling. black- haired young lady from Sharonville. Nell O'Brien. Now twenty-three in numher. with the distinction of being the largest class in the history of Cedar Grove. you are about to leave the arms that would fain retain you. to go forth into a strange. uncertain world. your guide the principles I have endeavored to instill. And now. my dear Graduates. as I see you depart. I naslc God to inspire you with some great thought. some abiding love of what is excellent. which may fill you with gladness and courage. and in the midst of the labors. the trials. and the disappointments of life. lleep you still strong and serene...
