The proceeds from the festival, a total of 53,- 540, went to the Hershey Medical Center to purchase a centrifuge for hemophiliacs. iv My J homecoming Dawn jenkins reigned as Cedar Cliff's 1972 Homecoming Queen. She was crowned by Mr. Edwards, during half- time of a stunning 49-16 victory over Carlisle. when members of the Homecoming Court were presented. In addition to the game and its festivities, the traditional Homecoming Dance was sponsored by Student Coun- cil. This was held in the cafeteria with music by the Frank DiNunzio Orchestra. Traditional yellow mums set the mood for an evening of romance capped by the re-crowning of the queen by Dave Cox. student council v.p. at go Q , Q I 1 11 V x., 4 . , Q is N ' 'wi K 0 , 'J' 1 4, 3 X9 4. Some of the outstanding accomplishments this year were Greaser Day, clothes collection for Appalachia, meetings with Dr. Hench, and attendance at all School Board meetings. Other points the Coun- cil was striving for were exam ex- emptions for underclassmen and assemblies geared towards stu- dent interest. Council also spon- sored Homecoming and the White Christmas Formal. Pollution and Rehabilitation of Prisoners were the topics for dis- cussion this year by Youth Forum. Youth Forum was designed to provide an outlet for students for discussion of con- troversial topics. Mr. Zitto guid- ed the leaders: Ralph Peters, Cabinet member, Nancy Bink, Senior Senator: and Brian McDaniel, Junior Senator. Infor- mal meetings were held on Wednesdays, and on December 13, area high schools met at Milton Hershey to exchange ideas and viewpoints on various problems. The year concluded with a field trip to White Hill to observe the prison rehabilitation there. youth festival The 1972 Youth Festival was arranged under the guidance of 24 high school committees. Cedar Cliff's committee, headed by Nancy Bink, spent many hours selling patron tickets, ads to local businesses, and bumper stickers. Cedar Cliff sent three teen talent acts to the Festival this year. These acts were presented along with the honor teen candidates at the Youth Festival Assembly during November. The assembly was chaired by Nancy Hearn and Judy McAllister and gave students all the facts concerning the Festival. 147 National Honor Society. These honor students must have attained a cumulative average of 93'Vo for each of the first three semesters of work and maintain a 90'?b average following induction in their junior year. In- duction ceremonies are presented before the student body in the auditorium. Mr. Paxton and Mr. Palmer are the faculty advisors for the Cedar Cliff Chapter of the Society. Awarded to those students who excel in French studies is induc- tion into the French National Honor Society. Students must fulfill three qualifications in order to be chosen to join the society. They must have reached the level of French III and attained an average of 93'Fo. Furthermore, a 90'Vo average must be maintained for the remainder of the year. Under the supervision of Mrs. Marks, the society sponsored an orphan through the Christmas Children's Fund and closed the year with a festive meal in French cuisine. Cedar Cliff's 1972-73 cheerleaders, advised by Miss Karlheim, have been unique in many ways, At the time of the Agnes Flood, they were stranded at Camp Maple Lake for three days. During that time the girls won five superior ribbons and a spirit stick. They were the first squad at Cedar Cliff ever to spell C-O-L-T-S on their cheerleading tights. Before every football game they decorated the boys' locker room with balloons, pic- tures, signs, and crepe paper. The cheerleaders prepared and releas- ed 500 blue and gold helium balloons at the first football game of the 1972 season. 149 X 135.31 Debate. Unseasonal weather prevented them from making too many trips this year, but they did manage to schedule one to Seven Springs. To raise funds, the club scheduled placemat, Christmas card, and doughnut sales throughout the year. Every Mon- day night a racing team went up to Roundtop to compete against other area schools. Members of the Medical Careers Club are those girls who plan to continue their education in the medical field. Sponsored by the school nurse, Mrs. Devenney, the club attempts to provide in- terested students with insight into the aspects of various medical professions. Ex- planations of the various fields and opportunities are made available through varied programs, including speakers from local hospitals. The club held several bake sales during the year to finance a trip to Washington, D.C., where they toured a hospital. creative stitchery Making more use of the facilities in the Home Economics Depart- ment was the goal of Creative Stitchery Club. The Club was formed this year to provide in- terested girls with the time to work on various individual pro- jects that they couldn't do out of school. Sewing and stitching are examples of the types of projects created by the fifteen girls enroll- ed in the club. Both Mrs. Reese and Mrs. McConnell provided in- dividual instructions and assistance when needed. 159 'Y f? i e li, SK., 'N nr W if 5 glaaelit '-un-...-4 'Mu Electronics Club. Backing up our teams all year round, the Pep Club helped to instill spirit and vivacity in the student body. 51 club Receiving little recognition is a trademark of one of the most im- portant organizations here at Cedar Cliff, the faithful 51 Club. With Mr. Bennie as their advisor, members manned concession stands and peddled athletic programs at all home football games. Thespians is an honor dramatics group of talented students, experienced in the theater. Under the direction of faculty advisor Mrs. Lillian Juditz and President Brian Stoppe, the club meets weekly to learn about all aspects of the theater, both as cast and crew members. Thespian activities in- cluded a trip to see the professional play Grease', in New York, Repertory Theater, and many special programs dur- ing the year. For everything that happens on- stage, there is a stage crew member working diligently backstage. This group con- tributed to every theatrical production at Cedar Cliff this year. Constructing, painting, and moving sets for The Crucible and other plays was the wood crew. The lighting crew added their touch by designing and set- ting the lights, plus providing sound effects. With the advice of Mr. Rogowicz and Mr. Fred Smith, this little-recognized organization performed an essen- tial role in Cedar Cliff's theatrics. The main objective of the Ap- prentice Drama Club was to teach students the skills of every type of stage work. This prepared club members with the ability to take over any directing or backstage work in case of an emergency. Each member was given the opportunity to try his luck at acting, directing, and ser- ving on accessory committees. Savings accounts, checking accounts, various kinds of loans and so forth. So let's be honest. Is there a reason for you to bank at Commonwealth? Do we real- ly have a competitive edge? We think we do. It's contained in the headline at the top of the message. We really are Happy to help youf' At each of the 30 offices of Commonwealth National Bank, you really will find people who take just a little more care . . . people who give just a little more thought to their jobs . . . people who smile just a little bit more sponta- neously and who work just a little bit harder for you. Nor is this an accident. We planned it that way.Wetake great pains in our hiring, making sure we get people who like people. Then we train them -intensely-in the hundreds of little ways which make a custorner's visit a little bit more pleasurable. Frequently, too, we reward them for doing precisely that. Happy to help you is our bank's slogan. It may not be the world's most glamorous slogan. But it does have one very simple, potent virtue. It is true. Come and see. E i sophomore class party The 1973 sophomore class party continued the trend toward increased informali- ty. Dress has evolved from semi-formal to casual and dates are no longer required. The Elvis Davis Band provided the entertainment in the Cedar Cliff cafeteria on the evening of April 28. Although much effort went into making the party a success. lack of interest on the part of the students resulted in a poor turnout. Due to this student apathy, the 1973 sophomore class party may well be the last one held at Cedar Cliff. 281 282 50 r-1- P-s 9-D 3 C3 P-s .Qi cn NVQ A fy J ..
