Attracting a record-breaking crowd was a Twenty-two schools were pre- sent at the event, each repre- F sented by a queen. C.C.'s sparkling queen, Debby Sees, was escorted by Larry Albert. Also representing Cedar Cliff, inthetalent division, were the Castaways. This folk group performed in the Tile Room, a new addition for the Youth Festival. The room was de- corated as an ltalian cafe with soft candlelight and red checked tablecloths. Organizing all these fes- tivities was the Youth Festival Committee, consisting of mem- A bers from each school. with the School of the Year Award. Displaying the Speech Department's award for its outstanding curriculum are speech teachers, Mr. Vogelsong and Mr. Waite. Governor William Scranton extends congratulations to Mr. Edwards and Mrs. Lutz as they accept the School of the Year Award presented to Cedar Cliff. Governor Scranton, Mrs. Lutz, and Speech Ill students. Because of annoutstanding curricular and co-curricular program in speech, Cedar Cliff was presented with the Penn- sylvania School of the Year Award in public speaking. The awardwas announced at the annual Pennsylvania Speech As- sociation convention held :at the Penn, Harris Hotel. At a special assembly, Mr. Donald Eckroyd, president of the P.S.A., pre- sented the award to Nlrs. Jeanne Lutz, director of the speech department at Cedar Cliff. Mrs. Lutz in turn presented the plaque to Nlr. Louis Edwards. A letter of congratulations from Governor William Scranton was readtothe assembly by Bill Corlett. In order to demonstrate the use of speech in everyday school life, a reader's theatre presented excerpts from Up the Down Staircase. I
