CORNER IN MR. QUIRK S WORKSHOP e NICHE IN MR. VAUGHN’S LIFE GIRLS' SPORTS COUNCIL Florence Hynes, Betsy Jane Rathburn. Elizabeth Finite, qirls' physical education director; Doris Brown, Jean Turner. Shirley Spauldinq. EDITORAL This year more than ever, the Physical Education department is endeavoring to have 100% student participation in sports activities with every girl a player. Individual physical fitness programs for each girl have been stressed through the school year. This means not only sports for fun but sports for physical fit- ness. Also, leadership is encouraged, and interested girls may become gym leaders, assisting Miss Finite by refereeing after-school sports and aiding in apparatus work during classes. Enthusiasm runs high for the intramural games that include all sports with the exception of archery. Each year play days are alternately held at surrounding schools and in addition competitive inter-school games are scheduled throughout each season. We are indeed fortunate to enjoy one of the best physical education programs for girls in the state. GYM LEADERS Back row: Dorothy Simonson. Ann Evans. Joyce Norton. Loretta Kelner Doris Brown. I FOOTBALL Whoever followed the 1941 football team is proud of its great spirit, fighting courage, and all-round ability. A well-balanced ag- gregation trained to play smart football, it goes into history as one of Cazenovia's best teams with no alibi offered. True it is that competition was far stiffer, heavier, and greater in reserve material, yet our boys scored with their heads to hold even advantage until in final quarters the power and reserve strength of opponents proved to be the deciding factors after our boys had played their hearts out. To us and to all supporters of the team, the season is regarded as truly successful. ! THE SCHEDULE Cazenovia 12 Oneida Opponents 21 12 Proctor 33 12 New Hartford . 19 14 Canastota 27 20 Little Falls 14 6 Clinton .. 14 13 Whitesboro 14 First row: Harold Crawford. James Virgo. Charles Dirlcsen. Charles Golden. Gurnsey Dimon, James Virqo. THE SEASON Coach Buckley's basketeers appear to be in the running for top honors. The schedule, tough most of the way, is rapidly piling up victories for the Gold and Blue. The material is good with height and reserve power and the coaching is the kind which aims at edu- cational results as well as a victorious season. A study of the scores will in- dicate the success which has been at- tained to date. THE SEASON THE SCHEDULE With only three letter men around whom to build a team. Coach Buckley whipped together a green aggregation with inexperienced batteries to win seven of ten games on the Conference schedule. Bolster, converted from an outfielder to a pitcher, along with Hyatt and Andrews, bore the hurling burden while Colligan took high batting honors. A victory over Whitesboro was the season's top per- formance. TENNIS SQUAD Standing: John Hyatt. James Styron. Thomas Hart. Sifting: George Lowe. Dallas Trammell. THE SEASON The 1941 Track season is the story of a squad depleted by graduation of star performers after a previous championship year under Coach Cornish. In the Norwich-Oxford-Cazenovia meet. Cazenovia ran a poor third. On May 10 the team conquered Chittenango 56 to 39, but on May 24 the boys lost to Whitesboro S2 2 to 421 2 The June 7 Hamilton College championship netted our team but 3 points against a field of twelve entries. The final meet at Colgate scored us in third place, bring- ing to a close a fair season with brighter prospects for 1942. WRESTLING CHAMPIONS BOWLING SQUAD Leo Costello. James Virgo. Alvin Bolster.
