Hudson We as members of the Senior Class of 1941 wish to express our sincere appre- ciation to the School Board who have made it possible for us to enjoy our school life more fully. For we realize that without this aid we could not have taken part in the many extra-curricular activities and had the educational opportunities which are offered to the children of this district. — 8 — HISTORY OF CLASS OF 1941 On Tuesday, October 3, 1939, we were formally organized as a Junior Class. We began to feel quite important and at the same time realized that we were ex- pected to fulfill many duties during the school year. We chose Daniel McCarthy president: May Barrett vice-president; Mildred Davis secretary; and Frederick Neadle treasurer. Mr. King was elected as our sponsor. We of course had the usual parties and privates, during the year. On April 26, we put on the Junior Prom. It is generally considered to be the best dance of the school year. For many weeks before the dance we had been working to make it a success. The decorations alone took ten hours to put up. The theme was a South Sea Island. Huge strips of black paper were laboriously hung from the ceiling and white palms and ships glued on. We hired one of the best Syracuse orchestras for the occasion, Dave Salmon's. Just before the intermission the King and Queen were chosen. They were Daniel McCarthy and May Barrett. The attendants were Miriam Sidway, Newell Woodworth, William Aikman, Mildred Davis. This dance will always be remembered as The Prom to End Proms. Now we entered upon the most important year of our high school life—the Senior Year. We now had a most important and responsible position to hold. We started off on our voyage by electing William Aikman president; Joseph Dobie vice- president; Mildred Davis secretary and Frederick Neadle as our class treasurer. We again chose Mr. King as our very able sponsor. Our class play, Outward Bound , was presented on November 15, 16. Al- though the cast was not entirely composed of seniors, yet our class was ably repre- sented by William Aikman, Nathan Graves and Morgan Kelly. Some have expressed the opinion that the play was a little too heavy. Later on in the year we presented a circus in the auditorium. A real elephant came out on the stage and all of the other attractions, although on a smaller scale. The next huge task before us, and we mean huge, was the organizing of the Yearbook. Our editor-in-chief, Nate Graves, has been in deep water for several weeks past, trying to get cooperation from his staff. If you who read this have seen our editor storming through the halls with hair on end, think nothing of it. The Year- book Worries have hold of him. Work on it was completed shortly after Easter va- cation. Mr. King, the Yearbook Advisor, and Nate Graves very obligingly gave up several free hours during Easter recess to the organization of it. The big event of our Senior year came on Friday night, April 25, from 9-1. This of course was the Senior Ball. The decoration theme was based entirely upon spring. Flowers bloomed everywhere, even in the young ladies' hair. Stan Harris from Au- burn very ably supplied us with music. Everyone who attended seemed to enjoy him- self. We all hated to have the evening end. We. the Senior Class of 1941, extend the best of luck to all who come after us and our sincere thanks to the faculty for their cooperation with us in our entire high school career. I had been traveling quite frequently during that year and having to pass a night at a small village hotel I looked around for something to do for the evening. Walking up and down the quiet village streets I came upon a charming little theatre. I approached the ticket window and who should I see, to my extreme sur- prise, but Anna Arnold, my old school chum. I chatted with her for several moments and during the course of our conversation, we recalled many things that had hap- pened during our school days. As I entered the theatre an usher came forward to escort me to my seat. I dis- covered that he was none other than Le Roy Bender. I sat down and noticed a seemingly familiar figure in front of me. It turned out to be Paul Costello who is a great movie magnate in Hollywood, having risen to great heights of tame through sheer work. The movie began with a newsreel. The commentator was Calvin Deraway who because ot his marvelous voice had become a radio and movie announcer. The first part ot the news was about three famous movie and television stars who had just arrived from Europe by plane. They were, I discovered, Harold Hunt- er, a great villain, Barbara Kindt, an up and coming young starlet, and Howard Judd who had become a Western player. Next was shown some pictures of a convention in New York city, I'm not exact- ly sure what is was all about, but it seems that William Aikman, our former class president, was being elected to the presidency of the Amalgamated and Astoria Tin Ware Co. Many notable figures were assembled, among them was the famous explorer Joe Dobie who had recently been excavating ruins in Persia. Two afternoons every week are devoted to girls' sports. The activities taken up during the past year were: Hockey, archery, volley ball, basketball, baseball, bad- minton, bowling, tennis. Letters are presented each year in June to those girls earning 1000 points ac- cording to the established point system. During the course of the year, games are played with outside schools and Caz- enovia girls later are hostesses at Play Days . Throughout the years the girls have been lucky in winning most of their games, having only a few blemishes to mar their record. More girls participate in after school sports every year, now nearly achieving the realization of fhe motfo, A team for every girl, every girl on a team . — 39 — FOOTBALL T I 1st row—Charles Palmer, James Virgo, Mr. Quirk, Mr. Buckley, Mr. Cornish, Donald Lyga, Thomas Jackson. 2nd row—Harold Pasho, Duane Hughes, David Marsh, Grant Schaff, Charles Dirksen, Newell Woodworth, George Miller, Leo Costello. 3rd row— Gordon Hughes, Alvin Bolster, Frederick Martin, William Colligan, Harvey Bendfeldt, Richard Moyer, Robert Baker, Gurnsey Dimon, Donald Way. 4th row—Robert Carr, Robert Kendrick, Roger Woodworth, Gregory Carey, Ernest Lombard, Steven Su- hey, Robert Colligan, Charles Golden, Wilbur Lamb, Walter Heffernan, Edwin Ken- nedy, Donald Carr. In one of the fields were seevral men running a huge combine. They were Paul Widger, Norman Odell and Fred Neadle. The March of Time next showed a large city hospital in which were working Mary Amman, Eleanor Hay and Grace Schmidtka. Two secretaries in the hospital were Laura Fuller and Fran Dury. Two other leading members of the hospital staff were Terry Jackson and Jane Freeborn who were performing their duties to the best of their abilities. Some pictures of an Art Exposition in New York were shown. Prominent among the exhibitors were Arlene Keiber and Lois O'Hara. At the Art Exposition was also being held a concert. Among the artists performing were May Barrett, an excel- lent oboeist and Aurelia Thompson, a coloratura soprano, and Pat Ryan, a first- rate concert violinist. Next were shown some typical scenes of the American home. A few of the happy housewives were Shirley Ausman, Gloria Baldwin, Helma Winans and Bertha Graham. This ended the March of Time. For the next two hours I sat through a very stuffy picture during which I practi- cally fell asleep. In this very short space of time I had seen all my former high school Senior Class. They had all seemed most happy and contented.
