CLASS HISTORY In the fall of l937, thirty-four bright-eyed children started on the road to education with nMiss Esthern as teacher. These little tykes later became the Class of 'Fifty. Entrances exceeded exits during the first eight grades, and when we started our high school career under the able sponsorship of Miss Hopkins, the class consisted of forty-four members. During our freshman year we lost seven--Wayne Howe, Dean Ashley, Mary Jane Farley, and Dewey Holycross. Marcia Hutchinson and Bob Maynard moved away but Marlene Rice enrolled at Cay- uga High When we entered our sophomore year, we had dropped to thirty-eight, still more than our original number Carl McCurdy had drowned during the summer, while swimming in the Vermillion River As a result of his death, the people of Cayuga purchased a resuscitator which has already been used several times Other losses that year were Beverly Henry, Franklin Freed, and Charles Smith Cupid had entered our ranks and one by one Erma Weir, Doris Coonce,Joy Tillot on, Bonny Spencer, and Margorie Allee answered his call However, Leo Neild made a welcome addition to our class and also to our football team With the advent of our Junior year the class had fallen to thirty one We took a trip to Indianapolis, February 17, to see the State Legislature in act ion, and Weslev Malone introduced us to the Senate We visited sites of inter est in the afternoon, many attended shows or a broadcast 1D the evening, and all, although exhausted at the end of the day, agreed that the trip had been an engoyable and instructive one During the first semester Ruby Swank trans ferred from the field of education to the path of matrimony Mary Hooton fol loaed suit in the second Later in the year an old classmate, Dorwin Steven son, moved here from Clinton ihis brought he total to thirty, but we lost Joan McClellan at the close of the year A+ the beginning of our senior year, we missed Mary Elizabe h James, who failed to return September 15, we Hen to Attica to get our senior pictures taken Afterwards, most of the seniors took in a movie The football team won the Wabash Valley this vear with Joe Auble and Arden Kilgore, both seniors, makin the largest share of the points The staff of th Utopia was headed by kenneth Kendall Rolla Jean Hayes terminated her stay at this institution be fore the second semester ended because of a serious heart ailment Cromantic Our school career was topped off with Commencement,Baccalaureate, and our sen Alma Mater has b en engoyed by the whole class Ben Harper In Fond Remembrance We the Class of'5O mourn the lo s of our fri nd and classmate, Carl McCurdy, who as drowned Julv 79 1947, while swimming in the Big Kermillion niver Carl was born Julf l3, 1931 He attended Fuvene Gride School, nd in August IQLG, he enroll d in C vuva P1 h achocl as a member of the Class o 5O Duringhi, one year in high school ne vas member oi tYe lOOLDdll souad As our vradu +1OU draw neam we eel very deeply the loss of our classmate . l O s - ' ' .
