The Protocol Club was founded on March 25, 1954, and it was at this first meeting that the following objectives of this organization were established: 1. The promotion of Christian fellowship. 2. A better and more thorough understanding of the Bible, and 5. positive thinking. Because the club was formed primarily as a Protestant group within Auburn Community College, it derived its name from the combination of the abbreviated forms of Protestant QProtoj and college Ccollj. The organization of the Protocol Club is in itself unique. First, it has a rotating chairmanship which means that each week one member of the group is selected to be chairman for the following meeting. His main duty as chairman is the preparation of the week's program. With this arrangement, everyone has an opportunity to conduct a meeting. The club carries on numerous activities during the school year. Twice a month it has meetings which consist of group discussions of relevant Christian topicsg once a month it has a special program at which there may be a guest speaker or a showing of some Christian movie, and during the remaining week of the month it carries on a Bible study class led by a local clergyman. Besides these regular meetings, the Protocol Club sponsors other activities such as dinners and picnics, and frequently has united meetings with Christian organizations from neighboring colleges. C., was appointed moderator and Mr. Norman F. Bourke was named faculty advisor for the club. The officers chosen to lead the club for the remainder of the academic year were: Maureen Fogarty, President, Louis Caruana, Vice President, Susan Powers, Secretary, and john Bellomo, Treasurer. The main event of the Spring semester was a Communion Breakfast held at Springside Inn after the members had attended Mass at the Mercy Hospital Chapel. After the opening of school in the Fall, the club again began to function. New officers were elected, a constitution drawn up, affiliation with the National Federation of New- man Clubs was established and programs for the coming meetings of the Newman Clubs of New York State held at Oswego State Teachers College in November and each gave reports of the convention doings at the next regular meeting. The club also was one of the co-sponsors of the Winter Weekend dance held in February. A set of the Catholic Encyclope ia and a Bible were presented to the college library by the club. As a preparation for the Lenten season, a day of Recollection and Communion Break- fast was held on March 12 and 13. Rev. Hickey, O. C., was the Retreat Master and conducted a series of conferences at the Carmelite Monastery. Breakfast and lunch on March 12 were served at the Knights of Columbus home for all those attending the retreat. The next day the club members attended Mass and then went to Hotel Osborne for breakfast. Mr. George B. 'fu Lia- 4 v The youngest of Auburn Community Col1ege's extracurricular activities is the newly formed Science Club, composed of students interested in learning and sharing the wonders of science. To increase knowledge and skills in science, to aid students in the realization of the importance of science and to appreciate the promotion of servicetto both the community and the nation are the aims of this organization.
