In the fall of 1949, seventeen freshmen stood at the doors of Cawker High School readY to acquire an education - and a little full The mem bers of the class were: Bill Barnett, Owen Burger, Jr., Don Buser. Alta Jane Calder, Don Carl LOY Fenton, Marilyn Fischer, R'aY1T1011d F1aZ1eT . Dorothy Hake, Tena Janssen, Marilyn Koster, Gary M-oon ey, ByJo Rhoades, Sharon Slaven, Jean ,L S O 7' Thomas, Bruce VanTilborg and Melia Jane Ziegenbalg. Our officers were: President, Owen Burger, Jr.g Vice-President, Gary Mooneyg Secre- tary, Sharon Slaveng Treasurer, Marilyn F1SChHl': Student Council Representartive, Tena Janssen. We chose Mr. Cool as our sponsor. Our DHTTJY Of the year was a bowling party, N'0VembBI' 29. at Glen Elder. We also sponsored a Hallowe'en Dance on October 31. Our Sophomore year found us in .the new high so-hool but one classmate was missing. We later discovered that Alta Jane Calder had moved to Colorado. After the first semester we lost another member when Jean Thomas left for Gali- fornia. We elected the following- officers: Presi- dent, Owen Burger. Jr., Vice-President, Gary Mooneyg Secretary. Sharon Sl-aveng Treas.. Bruce Vanffilborgg Reporter, Marilyn Fischer: Student Council Representative, Bruce VanTilbo1',e,' and Mari- lyn Fischer. Our sponsor was Mrs. Doris Ga-rey. We .sponsored the first school dance in the new gym and also a Valentine's Dance. For our class party we rented the roller skating ring in Downs. During our Junior year Bill Barnett left our .ranks to attend St. John's Military Academy. Salina. Kansas. The class enrollimen-t then totalled thirteen. Our officers were: Pres. Owen Burger, Jr.g Vice-Pres., Gary Mooneyg Treas., Loy Fenton: QL Secretary. Marilyn Koster: Reporter, Sharon 'JJ Slaven: Student Council Representatives, G-ary -15.7 Mooney and Sharon 'Slaven. We chose Mrs. Doris ' ' Gai-ey and Miss Ellen Pierce as our sponsor and co-sponsor. Our big event of the vear was the mj.g, Junior-Senior Banquet we gave the Seniors on May ' 6. The theme was South Sea Paradise . We pre- sented our Ju-n'ior Pl-ay Comin 'Round The Mountain , on April 17. Other projects which we spnsored inicluded a one-act play and box sup- per, a St. Paftrick's Day dance, and a pancake supper. Our small but mighty class of thirteen again stood at the doors of C.C.H-S. in September 1952, ready to complete the final year, The class roll now read: Owen Burger, Jr., Don Buser, Don Carl, Loy Fenton, Marilyn Fischer, Raymond Frazier, Dorothy Hake, Marilyn Koster, Gary Mooney, ByJo Rhoades, Sharon Slaven. Bruce Van- Tilborg, and Mella Jane Ziegenbalg. Class officers were: President, ByJo Rhoadesg Vice-President, Marilyn Fischerg Secretary, Marilyn Koster: Treas- urer, Mella Jane Ziegenbalgg Reporter, Don Buserg Student Council Representatives, Marilyn Koster and Loy Fenfton. Our chosen sponsor was William F. Janssen. On April 16, after much preparation, we presented our Senior play Bolts and Nuts . We were guests of honor at a fine banquet given by the Juniors on April 30. Soon after we became bored with school activities and struck out on a vacation for some fun but returned to dear old C.C.H.S. to claim our diplomas on May 18 thus completing the high school career of Uhe class of 53.
