“COROW TION The game between Vlenna and Cave In Rock, Feb ll, was a very Sp9Cl3l one It was the game ln whlch the annual event of crownlng the Basketball Queen occured The classes had s lected thelr candldates ear y The Freshmen chose Dorothy Reed the Sophomores aga1n chose thelr stand by Fave ustln, the JUn1OIS agaln elected Ruth Ledbefter, and the Senlors selected Lols Hohler a thelr repr sentat1Je The Basketball boys chose Imogene Cox, a rreshmant Everyone was anxlously awaltlng the CHGIISHSG moment when the gong would sound and the proc sslon would appear The gym was suddenly stlll as Betty nn Herrln played Whlwaysn and through the door came Wlnford lllls, crown bearer, and Elod e McDowell a cheer leader, who was flow r glrl They were followed by the flTSt ten basketball boys, who made qulte a plcture ln thelr red and whlte sults Succee lng them were two cheer leaders, Mona Garland and M ur1ce Mason Then Royce Douglas, captaln of the team that n abt The tlw of 1M s had core and through the door blue formll tttlng off her flery red halr Marching wrth her was black halree Imogene Cox, lH lovely blue satln under whlt net Faye AUStlH came on the scene ln a pastel plnk formal followed by Lols Hohler a Senlor, weirlng beautlful aqu gr en The prolong d Nhush hushn moment h d arrlved nd through the door our lovely Queen, Mlss Dorothy Reed was ushered lnto the room TTEIH bearers were Mary Nell Kaegl, Jlmmy Fra1ley, Donna Walker, and Jerry Douglas The glrls were dressed 1n plnk and blue formals, each lOOklDg very pretty The Queen was dressed ln powder blue whlch accented her auburn halr and creamy complexlon The Captaln, Royce Douglas, crowned Dorothy Reed Basketball Queen of 1948 49 wlth a short ceremony Elodee McDowell presented her wlth a blg bouquet of carnatlons The Royal Lady's throne was decorated ln the queenly colors of green, white, and lavender. She was amld an array of ruffles. The tradltlonal gold crown was studded with rub1es The Senlor girls, Elodee McDowell, Elladee Jones, Janette Tucker, Gerry Stariwat, and Wllma Dutton were ln charge of the decorations.
