BASEBALL The flrst week of pract1se 24 men app ared anx1ous to get gomg Four of these were letter men of last year, D H1tcl1111gs B Goodrlch J M xus J Tavlor three others were squad men of last year W Tacken te1n, I Straub and R Luce At me half of the s aso11 18 men WCIQ st1ll out, namely H Clark D Wl11te, M Potter J Taft H M1ller, D Rogan L Wa1te, W Remhftrdt V Saar, F P tersen, R Sxmuel son and the seven others from last year The squad got Ill a week and a half of good pract1s d1rectly after Easter Then for two weeks before the f1rst game whlch was play ed at Randolph on May 6 the t am had no pract1se at all on account of bad weather and lack of a d1amond SIUCQ the pltchers were not 1n good shape and the whole 11116 up was uncertam, th flrst game was lost by a score of 16 to 4 Straub HltCh1Hg'S and Taylor each took part IH the p1tch1ng dur1ng the game 'mae other me11 tak111g part w re TenE5 ck Whlte, Tackente111 Goodr1ch, M Potter, Maus Rogan, L Wa1te, H Clark, M1ller Taft and Fulton The 12th of May after much effort to make a sat1sfactory rangement for a game, the team Wellt to South Dayton Four 1nn1ng wer played 1n the ram Flnally the game was called and co11s1der able d1scuss1on was neld whether or not the game should be replayed It was dec1ded to play the gam ox er at some later date The next game was play d at Salamanca May 15 HltCh1HgS went 1n as p1tcher for h1s flrst ass1gnment of the year Th 1-11131 score was 7 0 1n faxor of Salamanca The game was lost on errors Hlld the fact that our men vsere vseak on h1tt1ng H1tch111gs held S1l'1 mfmca down The flrst 1nn1ng they scored one ru11 on a walk In 'ne last 1nn1ng however they made several h1ts and runs O11 May 22 Soutl1 Dayton play d here Straub started out p1tch lng and pltched all but one 1nn1ng It w 1s a very poor day for base- ball be111g the coldest slnce sprmg arr1ved It even snow ed lat r IH tl1e even1ng South Dayton managed to g t about two runs to an llllllng' not hav1ng any real volleys Cattaraugus recelved two walks and three runs the f1rst 1n111ng Th team agaln proved weak 111 hlttlllg and made sew eral errors The f1nal score was 11 3, 111 fxvor of South Dayton May 27 Randolph played here Taylor p1tch d all but one 1nn1ng He held Randolph to two runs 1n the flrst four lnnlngs Once more C H S rece1ved flV h1ts GOOdTlCh scor1ng two The f111al score was 11 2 In each game C H S has rece1ved exactly flve hltS no mor o less ThlS IS a rather strange co1nc1dence At the pr sent t1me 1n the eason G00dF1Cll has scored h1ghest 111 h1ts among toe regulars Maus has -1 shghtly h1gher per c nt but has played 1n only two of the fue games Followlng Goodrlch ln order are the f0ll0W111g HltCl1lDgS M1ll61 Potter Clark and 'l ackente1n In add1t1on to the above men th follow1n0' vull probably letter Taylor Rogan Taft and St1aub Whlte Relllllilfdt Wa1te md Luce st1ll'nave a chance M1114 n KIIODD . .
