Although lessons make us weiiiy And at history we sigh, And when we Hunk our Regents Fond hopes should never die: But we cannot be forgetful Of the time that passes by, While we are jolly students In our dear old Catskill High. Sellers Farewell, our friend and guide. fgaff aff- We, the members of the class of '53, now that we are leaving, want to express our thanks to you: thanks for helping us so often in little ways, which we might not have noticed, thanks for overlooking our multitude of faults and the number of times we have committed them, thanks for being understanding, even when this understanding seemed to be unappreciatedg thanks for helping us stay on the straight and narrow path, and, above all, thanks for letting us have such a wonderful time in High School. Mr. Louis Frani None buf himself could be his parallel. DEDICATIO To whom else could we possibly dedicate this yearbook? You were new and we were new, so we teamed up, and look at all we have accomplished! Without your help and guidance we could not have had those wonderful dances, that terrific Prom, and all the other successful functions. So, to you, Mr. Frani, we dedicate our yearbook. We give it to you as part of ourselves. We have fashioned it with our hands and our hearts. And we want you to have it, not only as our Adviser for four years, but our favorite teacher as well. e APPRECIATIO lVilfJoul lheir help we could 7101 have Jurceededf' We should like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Gladys Cunningham, Mrs. Roberta Mower and Mrs. Hedwig Rusack for their never-ceasing help. Certainly without Mrs. Cunningham's aid in our Senior play, we could not have arrived at the profit which helped make this yearbook possible. Without Mrs. Mower's generous assistance, our yearbook could not have been typed nor would our class productions have had programs. And without petite Mrs. Rusack, our favorite teacherf there would be no yearbook, as she has devoted something that no one can buy: time and patience. These three have advised us in our difficulties and have helped us avoid pitfalls. Therefore, to all three of you, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. Mark it well. It was the date That the Class of '53 Started making history! Seventh grade proved lots of fun And we loved it, everyone. At the end we took a boat And to Kingston we did float. '49 came round too soon, We our studies did resume. Bennington was our last fling. Now we're Freshmen we did sing! Cooper, Yerky, Gallt and Post Were the ones we wanted most. That's when Frani came to be Our adviser, don't you see? Christmas came. We had a dance. Our Sno-Ball was our big chance To prove to them that we'd be The best class in history! Following that big success CAfter giving them a rest? Still another brought us fame. Mardi-Grasn was that one's name. Then we beat them all in ball, Showing we were best of all! To Taconic then we went. On having fun, we were bent! Sophomores next we became. When we took this mighty name We kept Rose, and Ray as Veep, Lil, and Post- They didn't sleep! First a dance: Under the Sea, Still there were none sharp as we! Februaryg Valentineg Cupid's Paradise was fine! Then we won in Inter-Class. Time had come - the year was passed, To the Lake we went again On Sophomore year we said Amen Ii' junior year was next in line. We knew weid have a good time! We got started mighty quick - All new officers we picked! Peachy was the biggest man, Close behind him Helen ran, Matthew kept our treasury - We'd be rich in '53! Our first dance was Pumpkin Trot We made money - quite a lot! The next dance was plain, but fun - junior Dance - records we spun. We had quite a time that year -- Mrs. Di Cap was a dear, With her we went to New York - i Of Paint Your Wagon we still talk! We had our card party soon In November, not in june. And on a nice night in May We had. our Prom - the best they say Moonlight and Roses the name, Fun was had by all who came. Candlelight Trio the band, 'Twas the best dance in the land! Senior year rolled round at last. This year, we knew, would go fast. We were sure that he was sent . . . So Karl became our PRESIDENT! joe took over as V.P. While Lil kept our treasury, Was our secretary too. Yes, we had a job to do! Our Senior Play was the best. Karl and Marie led the rest. The Great Big Doorstepi' -- what a All who saw it liked it fine. Selling magazines was fun And we found when we were done We'd made a thousand or more - By gosh, we would not be poor! Then we saw Mr, Pickwick Of all plays that was our pick. We loved New York, all of us, Our cry: New York again or bust ! Now the year is almost done We know we've had lots of fun. All through school it has been fine We've all had such a good time! There's one thing about our class: Our friendships shall always last - And in all minds Weill still be The great class of '55! 1 time! SYNOPSIS OF PLAY The Great Big Doorstepu was fished out of the Mississippi River. The Crochet family held as their goal from then on -M a house to fit The Doorsteps. Crochet plans it all: with a small loan Mother CPapa has cricks and sirens and is unable to work steadily as a drainage expertD they'll be able to claim Shoepick's house for the back taxesf Then -- the loan disappears. Uncle Dewey, a pompous riverboat cap- tain, writes a generous check.-The check bounces. The squad lost its first two games to Northville and Windham, but bounced back to take its next three in a row. Yet, it wasn't until near the end of the year that the boys settled down and played really fine basketball. It was then that they began to show they were one of the better teams produced by Catskill High in the last ten years. The squad consistedprimarily of seniors, who include Ralph Darling, joe DiStefano, Keith Gilmour, johnny Hagan, George Hallenbeck, jimmy jackson, Fred Mondun, Bob Pitts, Glen Reither, and Bob White. These boys helped make up a well-balanced team, and anyone of them was a threat to score. The boys were hampered by ineligibilities throughout the season, but overcame their difliculties and gave CHS a basketball team to be proud of. ul CW if O V7 SCORES Catskill, 24 ................ at Northville 41 Catskill, 61 .....,,.,,,,,,,, at Saugel-figs 45 Windham, 61 ................ at Catskill'50 Catskill, 49 ,.,..,., ,,,,,,, a t mlingfon 50 Saugerties, 35 ................ at Catskill 73 Cairo, 44 ...,,...,,, ,,,,,,,,,, 3 g Caf5kil177 Catskill, 52 ........................ at Cairo 41 Catskill, 38 .......,... ,,,,,, a t Hudson 48 Greenville, 27 ................ at Catskill 61 Arlington, 59 ..,,.,,.,,,,..,,,, at Catskill 61 Northville, 46 ................ at Catskill 44 at Catskill 45 Hudson, 52 .................... ' -U , , Z If l I Catskill High Sehool's jayvee squad enjoyed a very successful 1952-53 season. The boys started off in a cloud of dust, winning their first nine successive games of the year. Even when Arlington defeated them in game number ten, it was a thriller, with the final score being 50 to 49. A couple of jayvee players are good ma- terial for next season's varsity team, but enough talented boys will remain to insure CHS of another fine junior Varsity next season. With experience lacking, the boys combined spirit, willingness to learn, and hard work, and finished the season with a 5-3-2 regular season record compiled with the first sectional win over Burnt Hills. The second sectional tilt was played in snow, BASEBALL 1951-1952 I Catskill High's baseball team finished a strong schedule with an average record. Competing against Mother Nature's forces in cancellations and postpone- ments, plus sore arms on the pitching staff, the team played heads-up ball. Others, such as Bill Macarelli, john Van Deusen, Buz Alverson and Fred Ward will be around again to prove their future worth. Scarcelli will be missed and remembered next year. Juniors Bob White, Glen Reither, joe DiStefano and up-and-coming lower classmen should keep the base- ball spirit alive for Catskill High School.
