BU HD UF EDUC TID a ,,k . m-,,,, . em M in-. A W. Wallace Bradt John Van Doran Gerald Hotaling President Vice Pres. ll ,ll .M-' 1 an Ivan Pitroff Carl Wolford Charlegljzfieetef Our Board of Education deserves much credit for the time and energy it has devoted to establishing and maintaining the splendid educational system that we students here at Cato- Meridian are given the privilege of using. Under the competent leadership of W. Wallace Eradt, the Board has set up a program that enables every student in our wide district to prepare him- self for his life's work. It is no easy task to maintain and staff a school with competent teachers and all the facilities necessary to the int- erests of education. Our Board of Education has made it poss- ible for the students of C.N. to have the best supervision and equipment available to the community. The class'of '48 appreciates the generous cooperation and understanding shown us by the Board of Ecucaticng and, as we go into the world as citizens, we will not be likely to forget the men who helped us on the way to success. CUSTODIAL STAFF The class of '48 would like to devote this space to thanking Clyde Brinkman, our Building Superintendent and his splendid staff of Custodians for their loyal cooperation to us. As we have progressed from Freshmen to Seniors, the janitors have always gone out of their way to help us during the period of our activities and have given unstintingly of their time to see that the facilities of their department were at our immediate disposal an all times. CATO-MERIDIAN CENTRAL SCHOOL voslas J. coLl.lws OUFIIYIIWIC Pllilh. CATO. N. Y. IOARD OF EDUCATION W. IALLACI. ZAUI. PHI. JOHN ll. VAll I. VuP1l- CAII. L. WULIORD GERALD L. IHIALING IVAN I- PHTIOFP Gill!-ll lfl1'll. CLI Dear Friends, Small-mlndedness is one of the most common enemies of human happiness. By small-mlndedness, I mean pettlness. Many people are afflicted by it ln one form or another. These people are not badg certainly they are not vicious, but their minds are fixed on little things. They tend to be suspicious of others. They are always thinking of little personal things. They are overcurlous about what other people are doing, and petty about what others may be saying or thinking of them. Their minds are directed inwardly upon themselves. In contrast to these petty, suspicious people, there are those whose outlooks are broader. They are interested in other things than themselves. Their minds are filled with their work, or their play or recreation, or with the affairs of the community or the nation. They are concerned with matters that really count and are not always worrying about the private affairs of other people or about what others may say of them. The individual who is interested in the petty doings of others is likely to be a gossip. He ls always making a nuisance of himself by talking of his friends or associates, and generall his remarks are not flattering. You know that if someone is constantly criticizing others when he talks to you, he critic- izes you when he talks to them. You know that you are not an exception. Everyone else feels the same way about lt. Thus, the person who ls always suspicious of his friends and always critical of them comes after a while to have very few friends and no admirers. Y We should develop the habit of trusting people, or believing in them and or refralning from speaking 111 of them. The in- dividual who is loyal to his frlends will have loyal friends in return. One who really believes in others will have their con- fidence as a reward, but the one who criticizes and makes petty com laints about other people will always be irritated and un- happy. He will be a burden to himself and a nuisance to others. ncerely yours, oJL:v9 CA ' Tobias J. Collins 7
