The study of western civilization deals in heritage, the relation of past action and problem to the present. A striking feature in the study of history at the tiniversity is the fact that the course is taught in order to make the stu- den think. Far from lfeing merely a memory course. the essay-type question is the true test of the students knowledge as he is required to analyze the cause-efllert relationships existing in our past. Thus. the education of the college student is begun in his preparatory years from every aspect of his cul- tural needs.
