'W awtor of ht. l'atr'ielc'.w, Potfsfville Z. fm In sincere appreciation, we dedicate oar annual, TITE PATRICIAN, to the V ery Reverencl J oseph V. 1lIeCf'affrey. Though the eulrninatfion of our lzlgh school flags marlvs the enrl of Fatherfs first year with us, Father has been most keenly interested in all our projects and social aetiwttes. To his warm interest and ready cooperation, we owe the resumption of our annual anrl the many other activities that have 'made our last year a memorable and treasnrerl one. S. was October 14, 1929. On that day, His Eminence D. Cardinal Dougherty solemnly blessed the building, and the cornerstone was laid. The school represented untiring efforts on the part of the pastor, Reverend Father Edward L. Gatcns, his assistants, Fathers joseph F. Toye and Patrick J. Foley and the people of St. Patrick's. While P. C. H. S. was being erected, high school students attended classes in the little red school house, the present grade school annex. The First graduating class numbered nine, while the largest to date is that of 1947 which numbered one-hundred two. This year the class of '49 numbers ninety-four. The '49 ers are thrilled to be the lucky class to take up the banner of the class of '29 and continue the record of happy and various activities of P. C. H. S. The First class issued the annual that of '29. The Patrician ceasedlafter the 1932 issue. With its resumption, we feel that a new era has begun--that this pic- torial review will perpetuate happy highlights in our lives at Pottwillc Catholic and make permanent the many friendships formed here. We trust that this record made with love will be continue-'l, thus forming link after link, building stronger the bond established in our happy carefree days. l5l W , X 1 ,IPL-. At that time three sisters of St. Joseph came to Pottsville to replace the Sisters of Charity. In 1928 the Reverend Father Gatens started a new convent-the work stopped after the facade had been built on the old residence. Since that time the fund for a new convent has been accumulating and this year a new property at 9th and Mahantongo has been purchased as the future residence of the Sisters of St. joseph. It seems probable that this residence will be absorbed by the school next semester. E61 emu., Merrnmi NAM' or BIIGIRCY, S. S. J.
