Debaters Contznue Work Continuing in the outstanding legacy of forensic activities at Catholic High, the C. H. S. debate team once again held an enviable record of accomplish- ments this year. Under the direction of Bro. Richard Fielding during the first semester and Bro. Larry Sylvester second semester, the team brought benefit not f x only to themselves, but also to their Zeve, school and their community. Brother Larry Sylvester took over activities when Brother Richard left, and his diligent work on behalf of the team was greatly appreciated. The first senior team composed of Jeff Patout, Stephen Bullock, Leo Landry, and Leon Mayer demonstrated their outstanding debating abilities during the past three years. The second senior team also provided great im- petus to the squad. They are Qstandingj Micheal Olmsted, Keith Sliman, Dean Wattignyg Qsittingj David Thibodeaux and Micheal Durand. 5 rf S 4 2 .1 Brother Richard Fielding, de- bate and speech moderator for many years, left C. H. S. at semester temporarily in order to participate in a one -hundred day retreat. Bro. Richard's adeptness in forensics and his interest in Catholic High de- bate inspired his team to cop many honors including first place in state two years ago and over twenty trophies. gt

Bishop Warren Boudreaux Leo Landry and Stephen Bullock, graduating seniors, proudly display the trophies they have helped to win over the past three years of forensic activity. In- cluded in the thirteen trophies are first place in state, sweepstakes at Catholic, St. Charles, Northeastern, and Rallies, and first places at NCFL qualifying and Catholic Diocesan. Parents of the debaters enjoy the food and one another's company at the speech banquet. Many parents who were 3 introduced to each other during last year's work for the speech barbecue enjoyed the banquet as a reunion of old friends. ' Members of the debate team and their parents enjoy the banquet given in their honor by Bishop Boudreaux. The annual affair, held this year at the French House Restaurant. was presided over by Steve Bullock, pres- ident, and Bro. Larry, moderator. Gardiner Garrison, Jaques Cousin, Lambert Laperouse, and Mickey Baham exhibit the trophy they won in junior division of the NCFL qualifying tournament.
