Debaters Contznue Work Continuing in the outstanding legacy of forensic activities at Catholic High, the C. H. S. debate team once again held an enviable record of accomplish- ments this year. Under the direction of Bro. Richard Fielding during the first semester and Bro. Larry Sylvester second semester, the team brought benefit not f x only to themselves, but also to their Zeve, school and their community. Brother Larry Sylvester took over activities when Brother Richard left, and his diligent work on behalf of the team was greatly appreciated. The first senior team composed of Jeff Patout, Stephen Bullock, Leo Landry, and Leon Mayer demonstrated their outstanding debating abilities during the past three years. The second senior team also provided great im- petus to the squad. They are Qstandingj Micheal Olmsted, Keith Sliman, Dean Wattignyg Qsittingj David Thibodeaux and Micheal Durand. 5 rf S 4 2 .1 Brother Richard Fielding, de- bate and speech moderator for many years, left C. H. S. at semester temporarily in order to participate in a one -hundred day retreat. Bro. Richard's adeptness in forensics and his interest in Catholic High de- bate inspired his team to cop many honors including first place in state two years ago and over twenty trophies. gt

Parents' Clubs Aid School The Mothers' Club a-nd Panther Club have always provided immense assistance to the functioning of Catholic High, and 1967 -68 was certainly no exception. The two organizations' encouragement, both moral and material, to the scho- lastic and extra -curricular programs of the school was an important factor in the success of these endeavors this year. Presidents of the two clubs, Mr. Donald Blanchard and Mrs. Roy Indest, discuss plans for joint projects. Many interested parents of CHS students attended a joint meeting of the Panther and Mothers' clubs which adopted a policy of support for the Citizens for Edu- cational Freedom committee in their effort to obtain state funds for use in pri- vate schools. Dr. L. O. Broussard of New Iberia speaks to the joint meeting of the Panther and Mothers' clubs in the school library regarding their sup- port for the CEF program.
