Principal Listen carefully to this. A farmer went out sowing. Some of what he sowed landed on the footpaths . . . some landed on rocky ground . . . some landed among thorns . . . and some seeds finally landed on good soil and yielded grain that sprang up to produce ata rate of thirty-sixty and a hundred fold. Mark 4: 1-B The dependence of a man on his land is a very beautiful, if risk-laden ex- perience. Beautiful too is the care which a man takes to help the land respond to the seed that is sovm. Our principal, Father Iohn Rilley, like the sower, spreads the Work of God among us. And as each type of ground responds to the seed in its own way, so too do we. His faith and love for God and for us teach us through his actions that his work with us is truly founded of love. 3 ,. 1? A ff! UW A MWA J WQV Of 1 9 ff The Sower, VanGogh Q.. IF A RAINTER SHOULD DRAW LINES WITHOUT RROROSING ANY IDEA TO HIMSELE HIS WORK WOULD BE A SLOT. Elizabeth Ann Seton The Gospel parable of the mustard seed was clearly fulfilled in the story of Elizabeth Ann Seton's life and accomplishments. The single seed of her zeal has produced not one great tree but many. The simple cells of Catholic education planted by her in Baltimore have germinated into the huge American parochial school system. The primitive Catholic orphan asylum established by her in Philadelphia was the parent of hundreds of modern orphanages and child care centers. The first native American community of religious women which she founded has flourished and continues to serve mankind. The pattern of this woman's life was a pattern of growth. She never stood still, never rested content. A warm, delightful, intelligent and holy woman, she shared with all persons the common experience of living, showing how they might be enjoyed or endured, as the case might be, realizing that each is a God- given opportunity to love. I Eleanor Roosevelt People-aren't made by themselves or by anyone else: they are released to be what they always were-and what releases them is the touch of life. For thirty years of her life, the woman who was to change the world lay in a sound if not too comfortable sleep back of the thorns and thickets of the dying age into which she was born. The time came, probably during that most terrible of wars, when the realization came to her--the burning sense of need, of human suffering--which is to say, life.
