Maier, '35 Catherine M. Pfister, '35 l'llS year the orchestra has proved its right to distinction as an outstanding organization. Not only has it added to the success of previous years in a creditable way, but it also has surpassed all former groups in proficiency and excellence of performance lt was a pleasing necessity in each prominent student activity, such as, the Freshman Day program, the Christmas festivities, the Senior Play, and the Junior Week activities. Through the courtesy of Mr, Willard, better known as Uncle Wip, the seniors of the ensemble broadcast for the first time this year from Station WlP. Another notable feature was the playing of the combined orchestra af the John W, l-lallahan and the West Philadelphia Catholic Girls' l-ligh Schools at the Mexican Protest Meeting, in the Convention l-lall. The climax of orchestral achievements was the fifth annual Musi- cale held at the Scottish Rite Auditorium on Wednesday, May l. This program will be long remembered lt included the singing strings of Beethoven's Overture, Egmont , Shubert's Ballet Suite, Part I-ll from Rosamunde , that triumph of skill and emotional interpretation, the Unfinished Symphony by Shubert. The second half of the program was brightened by Romberg's intriguing Nina Rosa and the self-introductory Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni. This festival won in both range and execution a leading place among the successful musicales of former years. Thus, with graduation the l-lallahan orchestra completes a most creditable season The senior members of this enthusiastic group withdraw regretfully from an activity filled with such valued oppor- tunities. This enthusiastic response enabled the A. A4 Witli this spirit of true loyalty prevailing, the basket- ball season was soon under way and the team enjoyed a most successful series. Numerous oth e r activities, swimming, hockey, volleyball, track and field, and danc- ing were supported by girls in the various classes. As in former years the point system was used, The outgrowth of th i s system is a presentation of varied awards made to all having the reauired amount of points. They are made in the British swagger style and are not only smart, but practical, The hats con- tinue dainty and are perched on the head. Wouldn't you love either the plaid dress or tunic frock for an afternoon in town? They are the last thing according to fashion reports, Both styles can be worn by most girls with flattering effect. Here's an important fashion decreeethe wide use of the print, In particular, a cotton print, such as the dress with buttons down the back, is invaluable for active sports wear, The shirtwaist model is ideal for spectator sports, while, for in- formal wear, the silk print is desirable. That silk suit with its three-quarter length coat is most at- tractive. The Easter, ensemble, perhaps, commands most attention, Suits and coats share the spotlight equally, A number of the suits have coats which may be worn separately. ln your Easter bonnet With all your frills upon it Yau'll be the grandest lady ln the Easter parade.
