Business Lomputers Business And Computers Meet Challenges Of The 21st Century By Charles Grey “Wc do it the old fashioned way; we earn it!” (• John Houseman for Smith-Barney). This statement has to be one of the widest known ads for a corporation of today. Yet, there are things that are misleading about it. For instance, business today can’t be too old fashioned. Every deal or transaction can now be carried out through the use of computers. Legalities in corporations are broken and very often lead to corporate law suits. But all in all. Business law, and the computer world together tie in with the free enterprise system of working that our country is founded upon. These ideas are the main prospective in our business-law and computer courses at Catholic High. The computer department, which is headed by Mrs. Barbara Michelet, consists of many basic Ideas that help the student to succeed with computers. Before you learn about those ideas, however, it would be a very good idea to take the typing class offered at CHS. The things that Mrs. Alaina Bozzelle and Mrs. Emilie Terracina teach will stick with you all through life, like how to type a correct business letter or a manuscript. Together with the fine computer staff, including Mrs. Betty Archambeault and Mrs. Terracina, learning about basic programming and different computer languages can be an everlasting help. This also helps especially when one enters the world of business and law. Mrs. Terracina heads this department with the help of Mrs. Bozzelle and Mr. Ralph Stephens. Together they give a student the idea of how our government, legal system and corporate system work. Business law teaches us what measures can be taken when and if there is a breech of the legal system. The area of accounting and economics helps those who want to learn more about business and fundamentals of the money system. Once you've learned the basics from the business and computer courses, the world is opened for you to choose what area of life there is for you. It helped me. and I know it can help you, too. Mr. Stephens catches the attention of hit business law students by commenting on an unheard-of law Computers 11

English And History Classes Go Hand-In-Hand By Jeb Broyles English without history is like corn flakes without the milk. In the junior and senior years, the literature the student reads in English class brings out the time period and people of the corresponding time in history. I know of several instances when 1 remembered something on a world history test not from notes taken in history, but from those taken from a World Literature unit. Likewise, senior history and English classes also complement each other. Catholic High is fortunate to have English teachers, who besides knowing their subject matter well, genuinely care about their students’ ability to write a term paper or compose a fictional essay. As this is a college preparatory school, we are being taught writing skills that will become greatly appreciated in college. Our English department even covers word analogies and difficult vocabulary words with us in order to help us score higher on the standardized tests that become so common starting in the junior year. One cannot speak English without emphasizing history. Did you ever read that the Dutch bought Manhattan for about $25? History at Catholic High consists of world history (junior year) and American history (senior year). Pages upon pages of notes are taken in these classes. One often writes almost non-stop from the beginning of class to the bell. There is a lot to learn, and you ask. “What use whatsoever will I have for this in my profession? Probably none. But you will have gained an appreciation for the men and women of the past whose actions have shaped the world into today’s modern society. English and history are an essential part of the curriculum here, and they must be taught together for their full value to be realized. Mr. Harmon explains the importance of the Pana ma Cana! to John Ammons and Bob Hotard. ii i rru» mn »■ ««■• » 12 English 4
