Open The Door, Meet The Catholic High School, in its 92 year history of education rooted in religious values committed to aca demic excellence, structured by friendly discipline and nurtured by personal attention found itself facing many new challenges in the 1985 86 school year. Why? The answer is growth. Society has become so advanced in technology that computers are commonplace machinery in offices, schools and homes. Education meant exposure to the arts, computer literacy, and advanced academic courses. Catholic High would have to meet this academic challenge even if it meant constructing a new 1.3 million dollar Fine Arts Computer Center. To structure a school day that would allow students the opportunities to take courses Challenge! necessary to compete in this advanced society was another challenge that had to be addressed. Also, Catholic High was faced with a change in its athletic program. A move from AAA to AAAA was necessary and CHS athletes would be competing with stronger athletes and with a greater number of possible athletes in other schools. Students’ interests were also changing. The description of many extracurricular organizations were assessed and new clubs surfaced to meet the changes in the student body. Students change, their numbers change, their interests change and their academic needs change. Catholic High was challenged to meet these changes, changes that resulted in many new beginnings.
