Seniors Experience Spiritual Growth During Retreat Senior retreat this year took place, as it has in years past, as a regular part of the senior school year. Though administrators took planning and logistical considerations as a matter of course, the event itself became quite unique for its participants. None of the seniors really knew what to expect at the beginning. Visions of monk-like posturing and enforced silence were all that some of the seniors could conjure of the approaching weekend. What we were treated to, however, was a beautifully unifying and personally rewarding retreat experience. The change was almost imperceptible, yet the difference magnificent. The teachers and authority figures became friends and confidants. The coaches and administrators became willing counselors. No longer were the seniors critiqued, censured, or made to fit the mold. They were provided the environment and encouragement to create their own mold, to define their own perspectives. It is now easier to see the purpose of that event for many seniors. Their retreat marked a new turn- a new milestone and cornerstone from which they began at once the Christian growth that is integral to the education which is so characteristic of Catholic High. It was at Senior retreat- away from the more typical and distracting indicators- that the seniors found the depth, maturity, and strength which told them, finally, that they had become, in every sense of the word, seniors.
