Past And Present Athletes Honored At Convocations The Fall and Spring Sports Convocations were held in the Catholic Life Center to distinguish CHS students, coaches, and alumni for participating in the Catholic High Athletics Program. Students are recognized for participation in a varsity sport(s), and may letter in varsity sports and receive special awards. At the Fall Sports Convocation, held in December, outstanding cross-country runners and football players were recognized for their athletic achievements. Also at the ceremony, two “Grizzly Greats” were inducted into the Catholic High Athletic Hall of Fame. These former athletes were Buddy Copponex and Terry Daffin. At the Spring Sports Convocation in May, outstanding participants in baseball, basketball, golf, swimming, tennis, track, and wrestling were honored for their athletic contributions to CHS. Outstanding Students Receive On Friday, May 17 1985, the outstanding students of the senior class were honored for their academic and extra curricular achievements. The 1985 Catholic High School Honor Convocation took place at Catholic Life Center. Brother John acted as the Master of Ceremonies, and the club moderaters and teachers distributed the awards to the outstanding students. The awards program began with a invocation read by Steve Atkinson, Beta Club President. Following the invocation three benefactors of Catholic High School were inducted into the Hall of Fame. The presentation of the Golden Bears followed the induction of Hall of Fame Members-The Golden Bear, a classic gold trophy, is the highest award of Catholic High School. It is awarded for excellence. Extra-Curricular Awards were presented first. Followed by the distribution of academic awards. Forty- three students received an honor stoll and certificate for maintaining a 3.5 or better grade point average. Co-Valedictorians, David Pope and Pat Cronan, both with perfect 4.0 averages received Golden Bears. Jimbo Pierson was given the American Legion Award which was voted on by the Senior Class. Closing remarks were made by Brother Francis David after the presentation of the awards. The 1985 Honors Convocation was brought of a close with the benediction given by Key Club President, Keith Comeaux. Golden Bears
