College Bound Seniors Depend On Guidance Department The guidance department at Catholic High tried to meet the needs of each class. Mr. Joe Scimeca, eighth grade counselor, and Brother Carl Bouchereau, ninth grade counselor, tried to help the newer students become adjusted to life at C.H.S. Miss DiVincenti worked with the sophomore class and encouraged them to apply themselves to their school work. The juniors were under the close and loving supervision of Sr. Katie. The Guidance Department proved to be very useful to those seniors who planned on attending college. Coach Boudreaux, with the help of Mrs. Pat Hanegan, was instrumental in getting college applications off to as many as 20 different schools. The guidance department also helped seniors plan for college by interpreting ACT and SAT scores. The department tried to meet with every student at least once a year and encouraged students to seek help for any personal or academic problems whenever they arose. All the people in the guidance department were available to any student who wanted counseling or simply wanted to talk. Not only did the department perform all these tasks, but it was the only place Sr. Katie’s famous “spice tea’’ could be found. Brother Carl Bouchereau gives some advice to Dan Dial. Students are allowed to check out books for 2 weeks but must pay a 5c fine per day if books are late. Mrs. Reinhardt assists Kevin Martrain in filling out the check out card. Library Provides Excellent Resources In the past several years, the library has grown from a speech classroom, to a fine arts room, to what it is today. Our school’s library provided both students and teachers with valuable resources. When the juniors and seniors began their search for books and periodicals to use for their term papers, they found our library had more to offer than they first expected. The library provided the school with projectors, televisions, video recorders, records, phonographs, overheads, and filmstrips. Many students relied on the library as a place they could go to study when they needed a quiet atmosphere. The library offered more than this. Aside from required reading books, it also had magazines, fiction, and newspapers. Mrs. Reinhardt, the head of the department, thought it a shame that students considered her and Sister Cecile “policemen.” They liked to think of themselves more as helpers. lister Cecile Harrison, C.S.J. 3.A., Loyola University; Assistant Li- rarian.
