Some may not understand this, but approximately one-third of Catholic High’s 1984-85 student body will. With the 1983-84 school year came important changes destined to affect all planning to attend LSU. The University decided to begin a selective admissions policy with one of the prerequisites for admission being the requirement of at least two years of a foreign language. Because a large majority of CHS students ultimately attend LSU, our school perpetuated its valuable practice of preparing students for this university by furnishing a competent staff of teachers, three of which are dedicated to the foreign languages. In the future these teachers will work full time to help untangle the enigmatic complexities of foreign studies. The 1983-84 school year saw these courses offered as electives for those interested in acquiring an expansive knowledge of other cultures, both ancient and modern. Many decided to take this road to new means of expression and communication, choosing either Latin, Spanish or French. Mrs. Gail Lemoine B.S., Louisiana State University; Teacher of English 8.
