“An Institution Is The Lengthened Shadow Of One Man” R.W. Emerson Brother Gordian Udinsky was well on his way to becoming a mythic hero while he was alive — he was, few will dispute, a living legend. As many have mentioned before, there was more to the man than the legend. Brother Gordian meant of a lot of things to a lot of different people but most of all we must agree that he was a generous, compassionate person dedicated to serving others. When we think of Brother Gordian, we most often think of the phrases he used, his teaching methods, and his physical stature. What we should also think about is the God he served and the love he poured out to others. Brother Gordian lived his life as an example to us all. It is very difficult to put into words our feelings toward the man. Perhaps it would be best to say little, for Brother Gordian’s life spoke for itself. It is the wish of the Bruin staff to remember Brother Gordian through this Memorial page, but his memory will always live on in all who came in contact with him. Dedication The Yearbook staff is very proud to dedicate this edition of The Bruin to Brother Ronald Talbot, S.C. Brother Ronald, who has served at Catholic High as Principal since July, 1980, has been primarily responsible for the honors program. Originally from Algiers, Louisiana, he attended St. Aloysius High School in New Orleans. He joined the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in September, 1965 shortly after graduating. He attended Springhill College in Mobile, Alabama, taking time off for his novitate training in Belvedere, New Jersey, in 1967. Between August 1969 and May 1975, Brother Ronald taught math here at Catholic High. During this time he was nicknamed “Columbo” by students because of the sleuthing he did to get to the “bottom of things.” In August of 1975 he was reassigned to Brother Martin High School where he taught until June 1978. Before returning to Catholic High, he taught at Vanderbilt Catholic High School in Houma. Brother Ronald is an avid movie buff. He has also become interested in computers within the last two years and will leave to pursue this interest. His faithful service to our community has been greatly appreciated. We wish Brother Ronald luck in the future. 8
