In a few years you will be asking Who composed the athletic teams and what were their records that year? Who were the officers of the Key Club and of the Band? Who were the cheerleaders, and how many teachers were on the faculty? When fhese and other questions arise the answers will be easily found by referring to your 1959 BRUIN. We sincerely hope that this yearbook will be a living reminder of your days here at Catholic High. The members of the BRUIN staff wish to thank the many persons who contributed to the creation of this annual. We especially wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. A. S. Bonfanti of the Fine Arts Studio in Baton Rouge, and to those who worked on layouts, advertisements, or contributed their moral and financial support. We fondly hope that you will enjoy the results of their efforts—this 1959 BRUIN. As the sun when it shineth, so did he shine in the temple of God . . . When he went up to the holy altar, he honored the vesture of holiness . . . (Ecclus. I). A man ot outstanding piety, His Holiness the late Pope Pius XII was a shining example to the world ot th al Christian virtue. The millions who were privileged to pray with him in audience at the Vatican or at Castel G t attest that they were in the presence ot a holy man ot God. A great leader in the cause ot peace, Pope Pius had chosen as his motto Peace is the wo’lc ot Justice. Me oc by this compelling thought, he never tired ot working tor the cause to which he had dedicated his reign. In |c torn by war he continually pleaded tor peace, demonstrating the futility of continued strife. So perseveringly h« apply his boundless energy to this cause that he has been called the POPE OF PEACE. Pope Pius loved human beings. He never tired of meeting people in public or private audience, to consol n courage, advise, or inspire. Whether he met these, his children, in the audience of diplomats, or princes, or me r of state or common people, he was ever the congenial father happy to be with his children. To meet him on I occasions was the thrill of a lifetime. Pius was an ardent devotee of the Blessed Virgin Mary and as Sovereign Pontiff he was in a position to honor ? as no one else. This he did by placing his Pontificate under her patronage, consecrating the world to her Immacu t Heart, defining the dogma of the Assumption, the Marian Year and the Lourdes Centennial. Of these, the outsta ing event was the promulgation of the dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven, November 1950, during the Holy Year. These are but a few of the factors which give Pope Pius XII the right to be reckoned among the great popes o history. In the opinion of many he was A great priest who in his day pleased God and who one day will be raise to the honors of the altar. It is to the memory of this great pope that we affectionately and devotedly dedicate thi BRUIN. 16 Ju iHrmonam POPE PIUS XII ALVIN DRANGUET Band Captain, Confraternity, Fighting 69th, Glee Club.
