Purins CROSS - COUNTRY The '58 season proved a very successful one for the Catholic Central cross country team. Under the excellent direction of coach Jim Schultz the Cougar runners entered and emerged victors in every meet. The hairy-legged harriers from Sheldon Avenue not only brought glory to their alma-mater, but donated the first 70 Cougar points toward the coveted all sports trophy. The '58 team was made up of four seniors, Mike Costello, Fred Hesse, John Purins, and Larry Jachim. It 102 cannot be denied that a great deal of the team's out- standing success should be attributed to the fine per- formances of these boys. But it was not iust four boys that won the meets. lt was hard work, rigorous training, and the sacrifice of personal time on the part of Mr. Schultz as well as his team. Although our cross country team lacked the first- class student backing other sports had, they still were first-class winners.
