Reserve Football Team Under the expert coaching of Don Lennon and Gene Jaglowski, this year's Cougar reserve an- nexed the city championship. In all they won four, lost one, and tied one. ln city league competition they racked up 87 points to their opponents 13. The team ended the season by defeating South l8-O to gain the city title. Freshman This year's youngest catmen displayed much more ability and potential than their record would indicate. With Jules Sommer at the helm, ably assisted by LaVern Wolf and James Schultz, the Freshman tied for third in the city league and had an overall record of 2 wins, 3 losses and l tie. C. C. - 25 Muskegon C. C. - 21 A potential great rivalry between C.C. and the Crusaders of Muskegon is in the making as this year's contest indicates. The teams battled on even terms throughout the entire game with the Cougars coming out on top. It was the last game for nineteen Seniors who all made a fine showing. At the season's end, the Cougars finished third in the final State ratings and had another City Championship under their belt with a fine 8-l record. An exceptional bright spot on the team was the booting of place kick specialists Tom Sczepaniuk and Jerry Barto, who kicked a total of 18 extra points between them. Hats off, to Jerry and Tom. Cougar Varsity The Varsity football team, losing the state title by a mere two points, displayed depth in every position to capture the 1956 city football championship. The team rolled up a total of 255 points to its opponents 109. The No. 3 team in the state was led by nineteen seniors who formed its nucleus, but in- dividual players cannot be singled out for outstanding performances because it was out and out team ability and spirit which carried the Cougars successfully through the campaign. 98

Cross Country Displaying well balanced team work as well as outstanding individual talent, this year's cross country team swept to victory in 6 out of 7 dual meets, the city meet, and the state regionals. This group of harriers was the first in several years to reach the state meet, where it proved that Catholic Central would be a state cross-country power for years to come. Under the stellar first year coaching of James Schultz, these men led the team in a triumphant season: Charles Griffin, Richard Gregory, John Haslem, Louis Yaeger and .lerry Herman. 'l00
