With twelve returning lettermen forming the nucleus, the Cat-men were pre- season favorites to win the City-Championship. The veterans include Tom Cunning- ham, Jerry Courturier, Jim Hickey, Charlie Griffin, Tim Horning, Jim Davis, George Zainea, Larry Wood, Steve Sichterman, Jerry Barto, Ron Wybranowski and Don Ek. With Cunningham and Davis in the hurdles and Griffin, Horning and Ek in the distances the Cougars are very strong in these events as well as the dashes with Courturier the top sprinter. The shotput is perhaps the strongest point on the team with Barto, Sichterman and Zainea. Although the Cougars lost Mike Cuncannan and Bill Navigato, two established tracksters, they are striving hard to bring another championship to the C.C. campus. 108

This familiar cry again sounded as spring filled the air and baseball season got into full swing. The Cougars of this year, under the capable coaching of Mr. Godleski, showed great potential in winning three out of their first four games and resting on top in the City League standings. The Cat-men were victorious over Central, Christian, and Creston, the defending champions. A loss to South in extra innings, however, put them in a three way tie with Union and South. The Cougars had many returning lettermen, but were dealt a blow when fleet centerfielder Jim Wysocki was declared ineligible. The returning veterans include Mike Malinowski, Fred Boylen, Dan Grego, Tom Ryan, Pat Jackman, Tom Hofmann, Chuck Kersies, and Ed Rutowski. Such newcomers as Bill Sommers at shortstop, outfielder Ned Smith, and Pitcher Jack Criske bolstered the Cougar attack in early season play. The team, being off to a fast start, has high hopes for another championship. ll0
