The Catholic Central baseball forces hit the diamonds and basepaths with a mighty display of talent that beckoned the willing and capable hands of Coach lack Young, who moulded the l946 edition of Cougars into a forcible, efficient, strong, dreaded, baseball aggregation. TRACK Coach E. I. Killoran once again took over the track coaching post which he vacated four years ago. Ted Sowle capably filled the position dur- ing his absence. Coach Killoran was blessed with an array of veteran thinclads, plus many willing underclass- men who made up in zest and spirit what they may have lacked in experience or sheer native ability. Under his expert tutelage the hopeful thinclads were rapidly whipped into a formidable track team. Owens and Danny Pobojewski in the dashes, Dick Gib- son in the 440, Ed Draugelis, holder of the school record for the half mile, in the 880, and Eugene Duba in the mile. Dick Lang and Dick DeGraff handled the hurdles successfully. Casey Polkowski, veteran shotputter and pole vaulter, was the standout in the field events. Such men as Iames Crowley, pole vaulter, Gerry 1-lousernan and Don Miller, sprinters, Dick Bichler, quarter miler, lohn Loftus, half milerg and Ierry leleniewski, milerg rounded out the Track Team of '46.
