Foreword 0 wad some Power the giftie gie us To see oursels as ithers see us! With this passage from the poet Robert Burns, do we, the editors of The Spires of 1939, express our aim in the theme of this yearbook. As students at Catholic Central we have studied at the scarred and battered desks, tramped the halls worn deep by many feet, followed the teams on field, cinder path, and hardwood court, always under the inspiring and guiding shadow of the Spires. Those tall, majestic pinnacles have been the foundation of our religious instruction, they have been an inspiration to our high ideals, their kindly unseen eyes have watched us with a never' breaking vigil, 'neath their lofty heights we met in September - and parted in june. We have endeavored to recreate this past year for you through the medium of words and pictures which without the Spires would be incomplete. Thus we have borrowed their shadow, and it shall fall on each divisional page of this yearbook. With it as our theme, we hope to paint a true picture of Catholic Central.
