AT HIS FIRST CHRISTMAS AS- SEMBLY . . , as principal, Father Janis receives a spiritual bouquet from Bill Anslow, December, 1955. In commemoration of the Silver jubilee of Father janis, our former principal, we reminisce concerning his twenty-five years at Catholic Central High School. In 1935, shortly after his ordination, Catholic High welcomed Father as a member of the faculty. For the next thirteen years Father taught Religion and Senior Apologetics. He was named vice-principal in 1948 by his Excellency, the Most Reverend Edmund F. Gibbons. Father Janis continued to hold this position until November, 1955, when he succeeded the Right Reverend Monsignor T. Gerald Mulqueen as principal. Father Janis became chaplain of St. joseph's Semi- nary in 1950, a position which he retained until 1955. During the past fifteen years he has supervised the summer catechetical school at Brant Lake, New York. 'sb AT HIS LAST ASSIQMIILY HIZRIE , , , a handshake from the new principal, Father Keefe, to Father Janis at farewell ceremony in Msgr. Burns Gymnasium, November 13, 1959. While he was principal, Father Janis inaugurated many innovations at Catholic High. The Blessed Sac- rament was first exposed and Mass said at Notre Dame Hall in October, 1956. This chapel privilege was granted by extraordinary permission of Bishop Scully. In 1957, the Monsignor Burns Gymnasium and Cafeteria were completed. It was here that week- ly record hops began in 1957. Father Janis was re- sponsible for First Friday Mass and Communion dur- ing the school day and the recent renovation of the Sodality of Our Lady to make it once more a main feature of student life. We are grateful to him for showing us the way by giving us the opportunities that have been most beneficial to our lives spiritually and intellectually as Catholic students.
