Nineteen hundred fifty-eight will be remembered at Catholic High as the year of the great loss for on February 28th SAM B. KIRBY died. His passing brought to an end a five and a half year period of selfless devotion to the school. When his son entered Catholic High in 1952, Mr. Kirby joined the Catholic High Club. Beginning then, continu- ing through his son's graduation and up until the time of his death, Sam Kirby set an example without parallel in the rschool's history of a father's devotion to his son's alma mater. P So outstanding were all the qualities manifested during those years that it is impossible to determine which off them he possessed to the highest degree: initiative, determination, reliability, generosity, perseverance. No iob was too big, none too small for this man who didn't know how to say, lt can't be done. And when it was done, Sam l humbly reiected the praise which he never sought nor expected. l His respect for priests was boundless . . . matched only by their great respect for him. His name will be echoed I gratefully in. the mementoes of their daily Masses for years to come. A ln Catholic High School's twenty-eight-year history no layman's death has caused more poignant feelings of sad- ness and personal loss than that of Sam Kirby's. We shall not see his like again. MAY HE REST IN PEACE!
