FR MARTIN E. BUSBY FR. THOMAS J. KENNEDY FR JOHN W. KORDSMEIER FR. SIMON STOCK O.C.D. . . .AND A FACULTY OF 10 IN 1955 By 1935 the school had one hundred thirty-three students and the need for a full time athletic director became evident. The job went to Mr. Tom Murphy who, in two years, despite a small football squad, won eighteen out of twenty-three Games. Growth continued and with over one hundred forty students expected for September 1936 enrollment Father Healy knew that the Gaines St. building would be inadequate. With an extensive remodeling job, the larger State St. building seemed the answer to growing pains. The summer was feverishly spent in changing the dormitories and private rooms of what had once been Fitz- gerald Hall of Little Rock College into a high school. When the iob was completed the building had seven classrooms, a large study hall, as well as a library and cafeteria. The old building was devoted exclusively to the science department. Hundreds attended the formal opening of the new plant on October 28th. Sports-wise too, '36 was a big year. An athletic association was formed as well as the Rocket Booster Club. The following season Mr. Cliff Shaw was signed on as assistant coach. With Mr. Murphy's departure in 1939, Mr. Choice Rucker took over the athletic department. This year also saw Frs. Claiborne Lafferty and John J. Mulligan added to the faculty. In the meantime Fr. Healy, having given the school a good start, was appointed Diocesan Director of Schools and Hospitals and Fr. James E. O'Connell succeeded him as principal. Father Healy's program was carried on by Fr. O'Connell and these other faculty members appointed during the late thirties and the early forties: Fathers James W. Nugent, John E. Murphy, Patrick M. Lynch, Edward R. Maloy, Rudolph E. Maus, John F. Kilpatrick, John M. Bann, Adam A. Micek Cfirst alumnus to be ordainedj, Arthur L. Pietrowiak and N. Charles McGinnis. A Fathers Club was organized in 1938 and a Dramatic Society in '39 produced plays under the auspices of the club. The plays were directed by Fr. M. F. Donovan, another new faculty member.
