Born: June 12, 1877 Ordained: December 21, 1901 Consecrated Bishop: February 6, 1918 Installed Bishop of Erie: December 16, 1920 Appointed Assistant at the Pontifical Throne: November 4, 1944 Appointed Archbishop: November 25, 1953 Retired: December 14, 1966 Died: September 5, 1968 Archbishop John Mark Gannon died September 5, 1968, after a life of outstanding service to God and man. Throughout his years, he exemplified dedication to his beliefs. He strongly believed in the importance of Christ- ian education for the formation of responsible leaders. He consequently founded many schools. These included Cathedral Prep, which he established in 1921. Much could be said concerning the Archbishop and his accomplishments: but as he acted more than he wrote, it would be best to express our feelings by deeds also. We therefore respectfully dedicate the 1969 Literulae to Archbishop Gannon and our memories of him.
