BETTER BETTER THE LENT In b l THE EASTER CATHEDRAL PREPARATORY SCHOOL FOR BOYS V0 1 Erie, Pa March 22 1944 N 1 A WORD FROM THE HEADMASTER On behalf of the members of Cathedral Prep faculty, I am most happy to extend congratulations to the staff and contributors of THE RAMBLER upon the occa sion of this first edition The founding of a school paper edited entirely by student talent ll a notable step worthy of tra ditional Prep enterpnse I trust its columns will be given over to an untrammeled record of stu dent expression, and I know its edltorial policy will reflect the high ideals toward which the New A survey of Prep history shows that papers have been born lh the past, have flourished for a txme and then have gone to an untimely death, either because their staffs faultered or because a hstless student body failed to render ade quate support. That must not hap pen to THE RAMBLER It bravely comes into existence as the facilities of the new school are being readled for an eager student body that has wauted with laudable patience for the day when lt could take over That day has now come The first step from the old to the new has been taken.. A few days ago smiling Prepsters were gleefully ushered into their new classrooms, in a lew more days, the splendidly equipped new DEDICATION We dedicate this first edition of THE RAMBLER to a dream, a dream which attained lts reallzatlon in the comple tion of our new bulldmg Through many years every Prep boy has cherished the thought of the day when he could ac qulre his education in a modern Prep This dream has been made a reality through the unceasmg and untmng efforts of our beloved Bishop, who has a warm spot ln his heart for the boys of the Diocese Therefore, we dedicate this paper to our Blshop and friend, and to the new edifice which is the most modem and magnificent in this part of the state laboratories will be theirs, then ln short order will come new home rooms s gym, a swimming pool, and the finest library money can UY This 15 a grand way to occupy a new move becomes a treasured experience Who knows in time we shall probably find a spacious comer dedicated to and occupied by a thriving school Journal called THE RAMBLER Somehow I beheve your budding paper is destmed to reflect the vision of our Bishop who con celved the novel idea of buldmg an Old World Cathedral School in the heart of a modern city I further beheve It is destmed to do credit to the lavish generosity of the priests and people who have helped His Excellency to perpetu ate his idea ln stone and mortar Be that as xt may we wish THE RAMBLER a long, a vigorous, and a fruitful existence Father Muller SPECIAL BULLETIN I dont know whether you very historic occaslon This was Fr Millers way of break mg the news to us that our ln formal St Patricks day pro gram marked the last assembly in the old school Monday we moved to our respective Home Rooms m the new building The program was put on with Ed mund Babowxcz as master of ceremonies and featured accor dion solos by Bob Kublak and John Sorge and songs by our Glee Club It was a welcome preparation for St Patncks ifreej day LOOKING FORWARD Slowly but surely the Prep boys are being evacuated from the old school to the new We are leaving the basement classrooms with all their cherished memories behlnd us and entering a new and modem building This transition marks a new era in the history of Prep Its high scholastic standing is now exemplified in an imposing edifice complete in every detall neces sary for advancement in educa tion as well as with the recreation al facilities which Prep students have alwaye desired As each section of the new school is opened to us we admire more and more its beauty and practicabllxty and marvel that so much has been done in these trou tres which our Bishop has encount ered ln the construction of the new Prep we have been patient in waitxng lor its completion Now as the work on the new building is rapidly drawing to a close w perceive that It fulfills even more than our fondest expectations Behind us are the countless lighting fixtures of the old school before us he hours of bright sun light. No longer will It be neces sary to navigate the halls with the aid ol a flashlight But those of us who have spent the greater part oi our short snvourn nere at Prep in the mines have a soft spot in our hearts for the base ment classrooms and for the hugs studyhall which at one time seat ed the entire student body It was lContmued on page 2, column 2? l.
