fllfffa rffalyfhdla Carden! qlhman? She hath put out her hands to strong things . . . As she steps across Cathedral's threshold, fortified with the truth which her teachers have cultivated during her high school years, the graduate of i953 chooses the path which she believes will most readily lead to the fulfillment of her obligations as an heir to heaven. Before she arrives at the road's terminus, where God awaits, she will be enjoined in the Words of Holy Scripture to out out her hands to strong things. Upon her compliance with God's Will rests responsibility for the peace and security of this war-racked world. Concord among nations cannot be presaged until each human heart discovers the peace engendered by the practice of the beatitudes. The 1953 graduate must be in the vanguard of the attack against investerate hatred, envy, pride and ignorance--factors which motivate man to ignore the reality of his fellowman's likeness to God. The world is awaiting zealous women to emancipate it from the shackles of materialism and apathy toward eternal values. To- day's graduates, as tomorrow's mothers, nuns and business women, will disseminate Christian culture, the vibrant, vital heritage of the ages. - Her lamp shall not be put out in the night . . . Neither the force of atheistic communism nor the temptations of modern life can quench the fire of love in the heart and soul of the graduate, she faces the future knowing that Faith makes her impregnable, Today, strong young women leave Cathedral because valiant women of another day--Venerable Anne de Xainctonge, Mother Pauline von Mallinkrodt, Mother Catherine Antoninus Thorpe, Mother Elizabeth Seton and Sister Francis--fulfilled their destinies. Their spiritual daughters, members of Cathedral's faculty, follow in their footsteps, molding the valiant women of tomorrow. She hath planted a vineyard . . . Mankind today needs the fruits of charity, modesty, purity, humility and obedience, attributes of a woman who can make the world better because she herself is good. The departing senior carries in her heart images of great religious women whose virtues she will attempt to transplant into her own life. Ripened by God's grace, the fruits' of her goodness will beautify man's evanescent sphere and will glorify heaven's eternal Creator. Those who selected the theme for this yearbook hope that it will in the years to come remind all of l953's valiant women of the cherished Alma Mater where they were trained to put out their hands to strong things. ln this SPlRES they will view again the classrooms, floors and activities which, when combined, convey the spirit of Catheral.
