'l' Mount St. Francis, in Motherhouse of the Sisters of St, Francis .. Peekskill New York. ln i865 four Franciscans Sisters of a community founded in Europe for the education of the young, estab- lished a school inf the parish of the famous Franciscan Monastery on Thirty-first Street in New York City. ln order to train properly the young Americans who sought admission into this community a novitiate was founded at Peekskill, New York. One of these young novices was Sister Francis, who is now regarded as the American foundress. Little is known of her life, but her spirit of humility, self-sacrifice and desire to serve God through His little ones has prevailed in the community. Sister Francis was a source of constant inspiration to the young members, who prompted by her holiness came closer to the Savior and nearer to their life's goal-sanctity. This example continues to draw many young women to the Order of the Franciscans, which, we pray, will flourish under the protection of St. Francis and the Guardianship of St, Anthony, while Almighty God smiles His blessings on the wonderful works of the Sisters. To serve everyone, to console, to counsel, and to pray constantly for the salvation and perfection of souls.
