76 Soccer Cathedral's soccer team opened its '74 season determined to win the WMass Tournament. Coach Lee Kenworthy felt that this year’s squad was the hardest- working team Cathedral has ever produced. Panthers, led by co-captains Paul Obermeyer and Jackie Marrinan, enjoyed an undefeated independent schedule. They were victorious in their first two league games, but a disputed penalty kick cost the Panthers their first defeat to Classical. The squad regained confidence by shutting out Tech, only to be stopped once again by the Bulldogs. In semi-final competition, Cathedral avenged their two previous losses by blanking Classical 1-0. Entering the finals against West Side, the Panthers held the lead until the fourth quarter, when the Terriers scored two unanswered goals, crushing Cathedral's hopes of entering State competition. Jackie Marrinan, Fran Pantuosco, and Paul Obermeyer were selected for the All-WMass Coaches Team for their outstanding performances.

Football Cathedral gridmen returned this year to achieve a successful six and four record recovering from last year’s winless season. The Panthers for the first time since 1968 recorded more wins than losses. Coach Michalak credited the improvement to the weight-lifting program and increased determination among members of the team. Under the direction of co-captains John Santaniello and Paul Anderson, the 45-man Squad captured fourth place in the AA Conference and third in scoring for WMass. Despite four losses the Panthers were never held under two touchdowns and averaged 25 points a game. Among the outstanding players were Steve Drewnowski, John Carleton, George Atkins, John Santaniello, Rich Heineman, and Paul Anderson, all of whom made All-City; Paul Anderson and Rich Heineman also made Ail-WMass.
