Softball A short while back there was a documentary on television, which illustrated how poorly funded women’s athletics are. lfateam’s accomplishments determine its athletic funding, then the CHS girls’ softball team deserves a million dollars. Team unity and one hundred per cent effort . gave the '74 team a winning season. Their 14-1 seasonal record qualified them for the WMass tournament in which they were seeded number one. 70 Track Continuing their thriteen-year reign as City Champs this season, the tracksters captured an impressive first place in the N.E. Catholic Tournament. Outstanding performances by Bernie Bouvier, John Carleton, Joe Dauplaise, Mark lanello, and Matt Wolff boosted the team’s performance in dual meets. Three new school records were set during the season. Tom Rothfuss cleared a record twelve feet in the pole vault. In the 880 running event, Ted McCarthy set a record time of 1:59.5, and the sprint medley team set a Steele Relay record of 3:39.6, Second place in the WMass Tournament polished off the season. Four girl managers added a new dimension to the team by keeping score at meets and maintaining team records.
