Girls’ Skiing Beginning preparation for their season early, the Girls’ Ski team practiced at least three times a week behind the school. Practices included a combination of calisthenics and mock race course runs. The team carried a heavy schedule, racing every Monday evening at Mt. Tom. The strength of the team ee ‘ lay in racers : { ‘ Sarah Rickarby, Amy Tuomey, 4 a and Cheryl St. Pierre. 4 Under the leadership of co-captains Carol Pronovost and Cindy Olson, the team strove to better their individual times, and improve their style. Although individual performance is important in racing, the skiers worked well together as a unit. caneeeeeneninmeieenee ee ee ‘Rub of the green.’’ Coach Mrs. Lucier 1 Sophomore Dan Olson skates towards the finish line. 2 Edging towards victory, Peter Cary rounds the next gate. 3 Under the watchful eye of an opponent, Amy Tuomey races towards the finish. 4 Angulating, Cher- yl St. Pierre shows her racing talent. 5 Chris Tuomey shows excellent form in slalom competition. 6 As she approaches the gate, Mary Ryan sets her skis for the turn.

56 Boys’ Skiing Under the direction of co-captains Chris Tuomey and Andy Choquette, the boys’ ski team had a strong season, suffering only two defeats from their old rivals Holyoke and West Side. The team’s strength was strongly challenged ina meet with Northampton but Cathedral managed to secure victory by aclose 119to 118. Enthusiasm and determination helped the skiers to overcome unfavorable ski conditions which plagued them in the beginning of the season. According to first-year coach Rob Cary, the tight- knit, compact team had a great deal of spirit which led to many victories.

58 Boys’ Gymnastics Cathedral's boys’ gymnastic team completed its '75 season with a flawless 8-0 record, despite strong opposition from West Springfield and other difficult competitors. This undefeated record enabled the team to claim the WMass Conference Title. Although the title had been won in previous years, the '75 season marked the first time the team grasped the title with a perfect record. After winning the WMass Conference Title, they participated in the WMass Tournament, capturing first place. Coach Harrison Ostrander was enthusiastic about this year’s performance. Rated as outstanding were co-captains Rich Montmeny and Rich Maurer, seniors Paul Janeczak, Greg Paine, Mike Lameroux, and sophomores Alex Choquette and Jim LeBlanc. Seniors Rich Montmeny and Mike Lameroux qualified for the All WMass team.
