Girls’ Basketball Dominating area competition, the girls’ basketball team demonstrated versatility and balance. This brought them a record of 18-4 and allowed them a high place in the WMass Tournament. Jeanine Bourke, highest scorer and rebounder, and tri-captains Mary Crum, Tara Mahon, and Patricia Ryan provided leadership for a unified team. The Panthers suffered two early defeats from Minnechaug, who proved to be the team's toughest rival: but victory became a habit as the team demonstrated a strength that went beyond height. 53

54 Wrestling Chalking up another undeafeated season, the grapplers boosted their WMass league record to 71 consecutive wins in the past four seasons. Veteran varsity members Paul Gallagher, Ken Gauthier, Matt Roberts and Bill Pegararo, with the support of many rookie members, led the team to victory. Coach Ben Aleks and assistant coach Tom Klement were impressed by the determination and vigor the matmen displayed throughout the season. Long-time rival Tech provided the Panthers with the “highlight of the season” meet. Before a capacity crowd at Tech High gym, the wrestlers, powered by strong middle-weight classes, romped over the Tigers with a 28-19 victory. Jeff Bouyea was the most improved wrestler of the season, wrestling alternately in the 185 pound weight class and heavyweight. A second place in WMass Sectional Tournaments rounded out the season. = were es
