God And Man Go Hand In Hand The Theology department this year initiated two new courses: Bible course which offered students enough background material necessary to understand and comprehend the Old Testament, and the Interdisciplinary Humanities which took an approach towards the 21st Century with themes of freedom, communication, and responsibility incorporated in it. Freshman Theology classes stressed independence while searching for a meaningful answer to ‘‘Who am 1?”’ An in-depth study of the sacraments created a readiness for Sophomore students to become more aware of Christian love and the religious dimension of their everyday experiences. East-West Religions compared the Christian relation- ship and attitudes toward God with Hindu and Buddhist religious beliefs and traditions. An examination of the community in terms of the ideas of Church and Kingdom highlighted Christian Community classes. Seniors in Theology Through Literature and Film viewed films while exploring existentialism and Christian values. The options man considers through friendship, love, and loneliness were emphasized in the marriage course. The holy year theme of reconciliation ; was implemented by means of an adult education class directed by Fr. Richard Riendeau and Mr. David Laux.

30 Experience Broadens Viewpoints The Social Studies Department used practical experience to feature ideas which gave students better insights into history. A one-year, multi-subject program, taught by quarter, was Offered to Freshmen this year. In the Inter-disciplinary Humanities Program, students were confronted with problems which will arise in the 21st century. US government courses offered an in-depth view of public opinion, civil liberties, and the major political parties. The course initiated an opinion poll and followed up with a mini-course on the legislative process and the citizen's role in democracy. Foreign policy was analyzed and and its study enhanced by aspeaker from UMass. Springfield served as a laboratory of study for the Urban Affairs class, which compared US cities with European counterparts. The course expanded its view of law and society by witnessing local court activities, and several lawyers visited the class to hold workshops. Cathedral students attended the AIC Model United Nations held in May, and sent a team to the model United Nations held in New York. Peon rf Goren, Reagaeng Tos Yar ® | a ww os Oxo D SHOULD A petis
