24 Curriculum, Personnel Add To Science Department This year saw, not only new techniques, but also many new faces and AVA materials in the Science Department. CHS welcomed Ms. Mary McGuire, Mrs. Elizabeth Contant, Miss Jeanne Monaghan, and Ms. Cathleen Corcoran to its Science Wing. Another new face to the department was Mr. Roger Lavallee, a math teacher, who teaches Computer Science. A new course, Psychology, was taught by Mr. Richard Barry. Adding to the interest of A.P. Biology was asmall menagerie, making room 261 appear much like a zoo. Seniors had the broadest scope of courses available with A.P. Chemistry, Physics, Physiology, and Science and Society, as well as Psychology and A.P. Biology. Biology was included in the Freshman course selection where previously there had been only one honors class. Science classes sponsored several school-wide programs. Among these were Environmental Awareness Day and the Anti-Smoking Campaign.

THE “21 INCH CLASSROOM” A study aid that is being utilized this year by the science teachers is the 21”’ Classroom or video- tape machine. This audio-visual aid in addition to the one in the History department increases the number owned by the school to two. Students find it extremely helpful inside the classroom and out. 1 Goggles prove to be good protection for William LaPalm and Marie Geoffroy. 2 Fear- lessly the ‘‘Bee Man”, Brian Seaver, class of ‘73, shows interested biology students his bee collection. 3 Paul Berube finds chemicals useful in his biology field work. 4 Frosh Kevin Bresnehan contemplates the next step for building his molecules. 5 Two young scien- tists set up the apparatus for their experi- ment in IPS. 6 Chemist Dan Tonelli demon- strates his laboratory procedure. 7 A student ¢arefully ignites the fuse on his bunsen burn- er. 8 Thomas Murphy pauses before netting another tadpole. 9 Armed with his notes, Hector relaxes before beginning class. 25
