Student participation in clubs demonstrates concern Competitors once again vied for winning honors as the Chess Club continued to battle with other city schools. Guided by Mr. Roy Scribner, they also practiced among themselves, and attempted to perfect their playing ability. Directed by Sr. Marita Joseph, the Math Club pursued its annual project of sending Christmas scenes and sweaters to Kenya. Students reviewed problems from the State Prize Math Exam, and Mathletes excelled in league competition, finishing first. Ecology has been a topic of many conversations recently and the Recycling Club is an organization which has acted. Successful supervision of last year ’s Earth Day enabled them to buy picnic tables for the ‘‘backyard.”’ By collecting glass monthly, they attempted to make people aware of litter, and to have them do something about it. Members of the Spanish Club went weekly to the Spanish Apostolate, and presented hints on arts and crafts, cooking and dancing, to the eager children. 104 ; a i
