Baseball Due to a 3 game forfeit, the CHS Panthers were forced to succumb to a 9-8 record for the ’73 season. Hopes for a possible Western Mass Baseball Championship were defeated in a key mid-season 3-2 loss to Tech despite Bob O’Herron’s tremendous pitching amid combined team support. 73 grads, Bob Duquette and Bob O’ Herron, won titles of MVP and Outstanding Pitcher, respectively. Prominent players on the squad included Bob Burke, Jim Connery, Tim Duquette, Brian Jarry, and Chris Kaiser. Once again the panther power exceeded expectations, but fell short of reaching number one. “The year that paper broke our bats!” — Mr. Dan Balicki

‘Tennis Helping the CHS tennis team to complete a highly competitive and successful season, junior Chris Mayotte again led the racketters, as he was defeated just once in the regular season, and was runnerup in the WM singles tournament. Improved John Morris filled in the gap caused by graduation in the no. 2 singles spot. Competing on double teams were Tim Tunstall, Tom Dromey, Mark Samolis, and Jim Flahive. Achieving a 2nd place in division standings during their regular season, they performed almost as well in post season play. As defending champions, they drew a bye in the first round of the WM team tournament. Missing injured star Mayotte for their quarterfinal competition, they relied on depth to defeat a scrappy Holyoke squad. However, fate struck them down in the next contest. In a rain-interrupted match, the Panthers lost a heartbreaker to Amherst and finished third in the action. ° eee = . 5 eet aneie ow '
