Girls’ Basketball During the course of its existence, Girls’ Basketball has become a major part of the girls’ athletic dept. at Cathedral. Led by senior co-captains Rose Tougas and Barbara Brennan, this year’s team became one filled with strength and vitality. Although the team was predominantly made up of juniors and sophomores, it was an experienced, well-balanced team. This experience paid off as the team compiled an impressive win-record. Decisive games included those against Northampton and the previously undefeated St. Michael’s. Spirit was stressed as an important part of team unity and the Purple Aces Award was presented by the coach to the outstanding player of each game. This award was based on the player’s overall performance during the course of the game, her sportsmanship, and how well she interacted with her teammates. Ist row; Janet Paro, Darleen Gill, Chris Shea, Kathy Allen, Rosemarie Jakubazsek, Marie Pratt. 2nd row: Jeanine Bourke, Tara Mahan, Kathy McFarlin, Sue Sponburgh, Julie Ambrose, Joan Mor- iarty, Mary Crum, Carol Martilli. 3rd row: Coach Donna Crum, Pat Riley, Cindy Corridan, Cindy Skypeck, Lisa McCarthy, Brenda Reidy, Barbara Kelly, Paula Dudek, Coach Sue Duquette.

Girls’ Softball It was a year of rebuilding for the girls’ softball team whose members worked hard all year to mold themselves into a cohesive unit. Finishing its 2nd year of existence, the team rounded out their season with a 10-4 record. This area standing enabled them to participate in the Western Mass. tournament. Winning their Ist game in tournament play over West Side, by ascore of 18 to 7, they advanced to play Southwick, the eventual Western Mass. champs. Although Cathedral was defeated by a frustrating 11-10 score, the team members knew “Tt’s not whether you win orloose... ” “Players had much in their favor, the most important being spirit, pride, and unity.” Donna Crum 490)
