Girls’ Swimming Team work, combined with determination, characterized the girls’ swim team. Mrs. Norma Lapinski, first-year coach, along with co-captains Judy Murphy and Eileen Skelley, lead the girls to a respectable finish of 7-6. One strong area, was the 200 Individual Medley Relay, comprised of Joan Daly, Mary Curran, Eileen Allen, and Cheryl St. Pierre. The IMR team placed second in WM competition and sixth in the Mass. State Meet. Both Joan Daly and Cheryl St. Pierre placed in consolation finals at Western Mass. Joan, then went on to place third in freestyle during the WM meet. At the close of the season, Joan was voted a member of the first WM Swim Team. Although these four swimmers captured many honors, this year would not have been so successful without the team effort and moral support of all. 56
